General discussion about payware add-ons

Older payware

Postby pfevrier » Mon Apr 26, 2010 10:04 am

Hey guys,

So I've been thinking of getting some new planes: the Aerosoft Dornier Do-27 X, and the RealAir Spitfire. I've read great reviews of both aircraft so far. The thing that bothers me however is that both planes were released in 2008. At the time they might have been awesome aircraft, but are they still considered part of the best in 2010. In the last year it seems that add-on developers have done an awesome job creating more beautiful, more realistic and more exotic aircraft than ever before. The level of realism found in the the Do-27 at the time might have been extraordinary, but compared to PMDG's J4100 can it still compete? As far as the RealAir Spitfire, is it better than Flight1's new P51 Mustang?
Help me please  :)

Both the Dornier and the Spit are still top notch!

Speaking from personal experience with the Spitfire, the craftsmanship is top notch, and is just as competitive as any other top payware release today. In this case, being a few years old does not matter in the slightest! I say go for it!

Ahahah I knew it... Tough decisions indeed.
I've been following a handful of payware that I HAVE to have in my hangar. It's just a matter of time (and money):
- RealAir Spitfire
- Flight1 P51 Mustang
- Aerosoft Dornier Do-27
- Sibwings Saphir X
- First Class Sim Avro Lancaster

I would love to hear from anyone who owns any of these products, and if you could also help me figure out in what order to buy those I would be very grateful  ;D

I used to have the Sibwings Safir for 2004, and I can recommend that one too for either sim. (Just never got around to reinstalling it. The quality is exceptional, but I just found myself flying different things at the time.)

If I may also highly suggest the FSX Aerosoft PBY Catalina. Now THAT is one excellent bit of kit!
;)

Are you only in the market for FSX addons, or would FS2004 ones be acceptable as well?

The Catalina... Lovely plane. I've had that one since it was released. Highly recommended.
As far as addons, only FSX, I do not own FS2004.
As you can probably tell, I like prop planes, especially military and vintage props  ;D
It seems that heavy metal and smaller regional jets are getting a lot of attention recently. I'm a prop plane fan, and currently on a reviewing team for a flight sim website, so I'm trying to find aircraft that may have gone under the radar, or did not get their fair share of time in the spotlight  :) So yes, just looking for aircraft to review, as well as purchase just for me. Any other suggestions is welcomed.

From the screenies I've seen here, that WarbirdSim package of earlier model P51's may be a good 'un.

I have the warbirdsim P-51 and it is one of my favorite payware birds.  It seems realistic to me, but I have never flown one in real life...

Another big big favorite of mine is the P-47 from Wings of Power.  It has some very realistic characteristics in their handling, including performance changes when you drop your tanks or bombs, passing out from oxygen deprivation if you forget to put on your mask, and much more.

My 2 cents  8-)
Alienware X51_R2 (thank you wife) Windows 8.1, 6GB Ram, Intel Core i3-4150 CPU @3.50GHz
FSX Acceleration settings on max, no twitches or glitches.
