Nick, UTX/FEX/GEX install question

Postby jwenham » Wed Feb 18, 2009 5:34 pm

I already have GEX and FEX installed and have just installed UTX USA. What is the proper install sequence with this combo and do I need to uninstall anything and reinstall? I just installed UTX and did a short filght from KSEA and didnt change any settings in UTX. I assume I need to probably run the GEX installer again so which options do I select in there in addition to the default, ie Special Landclass Fix (do I need), UTX textures (pretty sure I need), UTX/LUX Textures (have no idea)

Thanks, Jim

OK, I couldnt wait so this is what I did. Installed all the updates for UTX and set up as per instructions from another thread. Then I wanted to change my FEX items anyways so I picked the ones I wanted and installed them into FSX. I then went to GEX and reinstalled the GEX textures as well as the UTX textures and not the other 2 options.  I love it! I think the pictures on the UT web site dont give the user a good idea of how it will actually look in the sim. UT adds a big bonus to the sim even more than I thought it would. Anyways I went back to ASPEN with the AG tweek removed and set autogen to very dense and performance was back to normal where as before UTX had to set it at dense or stutter city. Actually it was more like a surge than a stutter. 30 FPS locked at KSEA and very smooth and I havent even run a defrag after installing UTX as of yet so Im sure it will be even better after defragging. If there is something I missed please let me know. I guess I will get Canada now (dont tell my wife) and as soon as GEX Europe hits the streets will get UT for that as well. With my new system and the great add ons I am using I am happier than a puppy with 2 peters. :)

I just registered here wanted to chime in for both of you were extremely helpful in my first PC build last week. Everything went perfect.

Nick, for obvious reasons, you answer all questions very clearly and give out great advice. I'm planning on installing FSX over the weekend and have your guides (here and GEX forum) at the ready.

JW, you ask all the right questions!

Thanks for the kind remarks! Yes set the voltage at 1.64 and forget about it. Others say 1.66 is safe but I have had no issues at all at 1.64. I dont understand why we cant set it to 1.65 like the mem is speced for. Good luck with your new system Im sure you will have as much fun as I am having with mine.

Forget kind remarks, I'm just being honest!

Thanks for the good wishes. Same to you, as it sounds like your as thrilled with the new system as I am. Besides FSX, I do a lot of online racing at iRacing, and the performance I'm getting (not clocked yet with a 920) is just fantastic. FPS is meaured a bit differently than FSX as I'm getting 100-400 fps, and more importantly, it's smooth as glass!  ;D  I've never seen anything like this - just plain gorgeous! The tracks and cars are all laser mapped and are stunning with this setup. Plus the colors and vibrance of the whole environment changed a little bit for a pretty decent visual improvement. I can't wait to see if FSX gives me the same type of smoothness and visual improvement. I'm sure it will. Because everything is working well, I haven't made the optional BIOS changes yet, like the DRAM voltage. HT is still on as I'm not sure it benefits iRacing or not, as is a bunch of the other stuff. Speedstep and Turbo are off.

Just installed FSX and Acceleration. I got one 300GB Vraptor. Fsx installed in 12 minutes. On my old system, I think it took 45, maybe a bit longer.  :)    I'll be installing the rest over the weekend.  I loaded the defaut free flight after Acceleration with the default settings, all set to low and very low, 15fps locked...it looked like crap! haha  I'll start dialing them in tomorrow.
