Which uk photographic scenery should I buy?

Postby Y » Fri Nov 09, 2007 12:10 pm

I am currently wondering which uk photographic package to buy, Horizon and Just flight's are the best I think, but both are supposed to have their disadvatages and advantages.

Some say that Just flights scenery is the most accurate and smoother running than Horizon's. Horizons scenery could be a little too sharp and the colours are too vivid, but on the other hand the colours are more realistic than just flights, plus you cannot land on water with Horizons scenery as you can with Just flights, and it doesn't run as smooth. I think the night time views isn't supported yet either.

I would appreciate to know what other FSX users own, and what made them decide to buy the particular one.

Having tried both, in my view they are pretty similar, BUT you have to ask whether you actually want what is quite an expensive add-on. These opinions are based on my experience -

Positives
1. Stunning and accurate scenery around mountains, eg Snowdonia
2. Good to look at from about 2000ft and above
3. No real impact on frame rates

Negatives
1. Photographic scenery is over 10 years old - don't try to find any of the latest housing estates or roads
2. Very poor around airports - Autogen is turned off so no trees or buildings outside airport perimeter so a very flat appearance up close
3. Some airport runways are in different places than the default FSX locations so you get two runways side-by-side which looks horrible when on approach.

I installed them, flew around Snowdonia for a while (which was fantastic) then uninstalled them as I preferred the default scenery around airports.

There might be patches and downloads to fix some of these problems, I'm not sure.

But as for which is best then it's hard to tell in my view.

Read this from my personal experience of VFR Photographic Scenery.....>>>>

http://www.simviation.com/cgi-bin/yabb2 ... 1194643658

Providing that you always stay above 5,000 feet AGL, and never fly down to ground level , VFR Photographic Scenery is just fine...!

F....G-BPLF... 8-)...!

I abandoned Just Flight's VFR Photographic Scenery: England and Wales, many years ago...;)...!
It was a novelty, for a VERY short while!
Autogen scenery is preferable.

Thanks for your relplies,

I haven't yet made my mind up yet. But in the mean time I thought I would try some add on mesh from the link below:-

http://www.simviation.com/fsx_terrainmesh.htm

But there are no instructions on how to install it and where to put the mesh files in the FSX folder, anyone?

First off, I would reccommend the VFR Scenery by Just Flight. I have also used both and that's just my personal preference. That's what you have to do, look for screenies of each product and choose the one that looks best for YOU. Thats way your choosing what you like to see.

As far as mesh goes, I'm using FSGenesis for FSX and don't know how to install the free mesh.

Sorry
