Wanting a new addon.

General discussion about payware add-ons

Wanting a new addon.

Postby born_2_fly » Wed Oct 10, 2007 12:49 pm

Howdy peepums  ;)

OK, so in a (somewhat) half hearted attempt to put just that little more fun into flighsim, I'm out on the hunt for a new addon.

I decided to post here to ask for opinions, as I have looked around everywhere. Most of the 'most popular' payware products I either have, or have no want/need for. I was just wanted opinions from people about newer/ish products that may have not built up a reputation yet, or anything you think is really outstanding.

Currently, I don't have enough time to learn a detailed A/C and all its systems (I already have PMDG 747/737) and I'm not really sure I'm looking for a scenery. But I may be wrong.

I'm really stuck in the middle, not sure what I want, and thats why I'm posting here, to hopefully be shoved in the direction of something  ;D

I've been contemplating Radar Contact for some time now, but the lack of airline names seems to be a bit of a worry. Plus, I've heard it can get quite complicated with AI traffic and ground procedures not working correctly. But then again, if you have experience, please share!

I'm more into commercial then GA, and currently more shorthaul as that is what my time is permitting.
Again I've been thinking about the CLS model (Ha ha going against what I just said) but don't really see it as being something I really want.

Also, no suggestions of FSX either  :P

I know it seems a bit silly, me honestly having NO IDEA really what I want, but it's nice to have new things, and hey, if I can, why not?

I'm not wanting to spend too much, dare I say it (however much I LOVE FS9) and however much I would love to keep using it forever, I feel as though any investment over around

Go for the CLS A330/A340 family...They're so much fun to fly and the models are very photogenic...Go for it...they're around 33 Euro...But! They'll be well worth it...Also, you won't have to learn the FMC as the one in there is based on the Default FS Flight Planner...GO! ;) ;) ;)

PS: I'll post some shots in the Payware board...Check 'em out :D ;) :P

If you want high detailed go for a Wilco 777 or 737 PIC.. The 777 has a FMC as does the 737 and they are almost real! a bit of money but what the hey  ;D and since you have PMDG 737 which is the NG ones (I think) the PIC has classic ones the -300 -400 and -500 which are really great to fly! But another great aircraft to fly are CLS they ahve a great A310 and if you want Captain sim has a 757 which is highly detailed but it does kill your frames i have heard :-[ Another great aircraft is one you'll have to wait for is the Air Simmer A320 it's looking fantastic!

Sorry to say, the Wilco 777 is terrible...Their 737 is excellent though...And yes I too am waiting for the Air Simmer A320 ;)

Ha ha Mothball, no offence taken sir  ;)

It seemed light hearted enough, and if you think thats confusing. Think how I'm feeling in my head  ;D  :P ;D

Layne, thanks for the advice, I've heard good things about the 737 (Not much on the 777) so it seems like a definite plan for the not-so-distant-future  :) However, (looking at the website product page) it seems a tad too in depth for what I have time to master at the moment  :)

Ash, I think you've swayed me, those shots in the Payware forum are awesome, and as I already have the CLS A340-500/600 series it seems like a logical continuation  :)

Thats to everyone for their input, but I think the thing that finally tipped the scales is the ease of use and pure beauty of the CLS model  ;D

Also, the guy producing the paints for them does astounding work  8-)

Many thanks to all.

Alex  ;)

If you don't have Ground Environment Pro, Flight Environment, Active Sky 6.5, get one of them. They will brighten up your sim no end  :)

Alright Alex. Now that we got all that out the way, let's see if we can get you "dialed in". I see you have FS9, and seem quite satisfied with it, that's good. You also seem to still enjoy flight simming also - that's also good. That tells us that you're still interested in simming in general, so we're, at least, in the same ball park. Now, you say that you like "short hauls", but you also say, that you have a 747 program - 747's are not really "short haulers".... I'm wondering if the "stock" Bombardier Learjet 45 might be a better choice of aircraft. You would still be in the "commercial" type aircraft, and your skills with a 747 would transfer to the Learjet.... it would just be smaller and minus two jet engines. If I remember correctly, the Learjet 45 has a max range of about 4-5,000nm, but will still cruise at about FL400 @ around 450 KIAS, I'm probably a little off, on that info, but it's close enough for this application. If you feel that it's the aircraft that is the current "stumbling block", you may consider "downsizing" a bit, and it would cost you absolutely nothing. Your thoughts?  Semper Fi, Dave

Or if he likes short hauls then there is AirSimmer A320, Wilco 737 PIC, Wilco/Feelthere ERJ-145 PIC and there is also CLS A310 and A330 for ya ;) All high quality aircraft

If you don't mind no Virtual cockpit (one is 'coming soon'), then try Flythemaddog.com. It's great and won't require too much learning as the FMC and general operation is fairly similar to the 737 Classic. :)

Got around to reinstalling the Feelthere 737.... well.... it's great. IMO it's far better than the PMDG 'NG and is a bundle of joy to fly. :) The sound and VC is just amazing, VERY imersive. Flight management and general operation is very similar to the 'NG, there should be little or no reading to convert to it. If you pick ready to start option in the load manager you can get the aircraft ready to fly in less than 5 minutes.
