FS2004 and abacus' USA Extreme Landscapes

Postby rootbeer » Mon Apr 17, 2006 7:16 pm

This landscape says it's for 2002 and 2004. I have it running fine with 2002. Just bought 2004 today and want to put them together. When I put in Disk 1, it asks me which of five or six scenery areas I want to install. Of course, I want to install them all, but I'm seemingly only allowed to choose one. If I try to choose more than one at at time, I get the subsquent choice-- not the first choice. I click Install and it installs hundreds of megabytes in the wink of an eye. I start FS to see if it "took", but I see only the low-res default scenery. Is it only going to allow one install: once on 2002 or once on 2004 but not simultaneous installs? I have an email in to abacus' tech support address. They won't see it until tomorrow. What do you young, computer-savvy whizkids think?

I don't have it so it may or may not work in FS2004, but you may not need to install it twice. Have you tried activating it from FS2004?

btw, this should probably be in the payware forum ;)

My suggestion is to uninstall it completely from.  Then reinstall it for FS2004.

My experience installing it was that it installed all areas at the same time.

(I have USA and World Extreme Landscapes installed, no problems in either case)

I thought about that tactic, but haven't tried it yet. I'm wiped out from a long night at work and haven't gone to bed yet-- been foolin' around with 2004 since this afternoon...

Maybe it's my machine, but 2004 doesn't look as good as my trusty, old 2002. The interface is similar; that's a plus. Maybe I am just unfamilair with it at this early stage.

I did read in its literature that Extreme Warbirds is a 2002-only product. I suspect these jets can be found in the downloads area of the site, most likely in better configurations than what I have now.

Yea, I have USA Extreme Landscapes for 2004.  I installed all the scenery areas at once.  No problems.  BTW, it's definately good.  To me, the best way you can see the improvement is to go over to an area you know well and notice the improved accuracy.  That's what I did.  I know Los Angeles geography very well.  When I did VFR over the LA area, I was very satisfied.  Definate improvement over the stock scenery.

on my system 2004 didn't look any better than my highley tweeked 2002 untill 2004 was simlarly tweeked.  I did get alot higher FPS with more detail in 2004 than 2002 though which suffered from much stuttering on my pc.

Basically, my understanding of 2004 over 2002 regarding the environment are the better clouds and better and more efficient generated scenery.

rootbear:

The quick and dirty:
The way the InstallShield program works, you can install to either FS2002 or FS2004, but not both.

Having said that, there is a way to copy the files from FS2002 to FS2004, and you should be getting the instructions directly - once your tech support email gets to the right person.    ;D

I got a reply from Adam Howe. I did as he said: I uninstalled USAEL from 2002 and put it on with 2004. My scenery is back! He also wrote that I could transfer the files manually to also have USAEL run on 2002, but 2004 is so much better I see no need to do so. Once I find some neato downloads and get them into the new sim, 2002 is old news.

I also found that adjusting the screen resolution to a higher one gives me nice, round engine nacelles. I read somewhere today in these pages about matching resolutions, but can't remember where or what was written. Something about matching screen and sim resolutions. Does that sound correct to you?

Man, am I having fun with this new sim! Wish I'd bought it a year ago.
