Deals on Abacus stuff...

Postby Wing Nut » Sat Aug 06, 2005 11:17 am

I found a pretty good deal on some of Abacus' products at Game Stop yesterday...

Normally I look at anything from Abacus and just say "eww..." but they had Extreme Landscapes (their 38 and 78 meter mesh) on sale for $9.99 and then it was half off of that!  Too good to pass up, and cheap enough to expiriment with.  Plus the free Carenado Dakota that comes with it helped.

Also I got FS Ventures for $4.99 and again, half off of that, too!  They also had Whirly-birds, but I don't really do helicopters, so I passed on that one.

It basically boiled down to "It's too cheap not to buy!"

I just bought Flight Deck III from them for 4.99 could not pass on that. Even though all the planes in the package SUCK, I  love the arrestor cable program( that used to be freeware). Even has cats at places like Pax River Md. Great for practicing takeoffs and landings with no water involved if you screw up.

Have FlightDeck III aswell, indeed their planes SUCK but their carriers are better than any freeware alternative cause they have the meatball ;)

Abascus is not know for putting out the best airplane models. Some of their packages have really cool stuff.Their carrier operations are fantastic. But their planes are usually low quality.Though I have enjoyed flying some of them.

Abacus is one of those companies where when they're on, they're really on; when they're off, they're really off.  Some programs like FSDS and Arrcabs are almost indespensible to the FS community, but by the same token, some of their planes wouldn't be out of place in FS2000...  ::)

Any opinions on their A380? I saw that in a local PC store today and was very tempted but the comments in this thread gave me second thoughts so I have held off on the purchase.

Would I be better off going for this one or the newly released Wilco A380 version.

Ah I remember back in the day where there was hardly any paywares out, that abacus had some of the best planes Id drool over.  Like their P-51... and Terry Hill's Concorde which I still have.  Sadly, in the last few years, with the latest and greatest, they simply fall really short in comparison to other payware companies who can bring the most realistic experiences ever.
Cheers,
RB
