Just Flight Spitfire

General discussion about payware add-ons

Just Flight Spitfire

Postby Springer6 » Sun May 08, 2005 6:35 am

Has anyone got any views on this?

There are some very good freeware Spitfire's/Seafire's about .

I've always fancied a prototype Spit (K5054 ) which Just Flight have produced.

However looking at their screenshots of this and some other models, the textures look a bit unrealistic with quite a few detail faults. Examples,  the wing to fuselage joins look to be drawn in rather than modelled, the rivet and panel lines on all models look rather amateurish with no shading (  Just Flight have produced a paint kit that may allow personal correction of some of this ) , colours don't look right. Or are these just caused by the screenshots not doing the real thing justice? I have read reviews that say the canopy reflections are not right .

I understand that the flight modellling is very good with spins for example being well simulated.

Is this a good buy or should I stick with the very satisfactory freeware versions?

The just flight package is good in some areas. The prototype is very nice indeed, as are most of the Merlin Spits. The Griffons (particularly the XIV and 22) are a bit iffy.

However...

JF are in the process of producing a patch (150mb), which will fix the Mk 22s fin and rudder  as well as other model faults, and have new (better) textures for most if not all of the models...

The pics on that thread aren't working for me at the mo, so here's a taster...

If not then you may want to wait until aeroplane heaven release them as single aircraft (at a higher price ::) )

Thanks Charlie.

You got me into Just Flight's Forum . A lot of Info out there and as you say some of the screenshots of the promised patch are very good indeed.

The product has got my interest again.

Do you or anyone else have screenshots of the prototype , either orig or via the patch?

I would be interested in how it looks with both, undercarriage down and  up

Thanks again Charlie, just what I was looking for. I'll follow your suggestions on looking for more. I have also asked if Just Flight will let us look at the proposed patch improvements to K5054 in their own Forum

The Prototypes probably the nicest of the original pack. Hopefully the patch will get rid of the horrible line at the join of the fuselage and wing fillet...

Thanks again all.   On the basis of your advice and in anticipation of a big improvement from the forthcoming patch and also due to the fact that I found it at a very good price, I have just ordered the Justflight Spitfire package.

I have the AH Seafire, which when texture tweaked is just about my favourite plane. So the JF spit will have a lot to beat. :)

Got the Justy Flight Spitfire package today...First impressions are that overall package is very good ...sounds great and flight models seem realistic....However it's clear that the textures have been rushed .... several have vertical streaking in the colours and colour bleed on boundaries. really quite poor from such a  quality company .

Good news is that the forthcoming patch textures look a lot better.

In about an hour I was able to make K5054 the prototype look a quite a lot more like the original than the amateur level effort provided by Just Flight ( roundels were even incorrect ). I think these textures have been rushed out. Lots of detail could easily have been added which wasn't done or only half done.  Let's hope the patch and the efforts of the re-painters ( some early examples of which appear on the Just Flight Forum) will really bring this package to life
