I learned I can't do a 100% vertical take off... thats fine. Can I mess with the config file to make the harrier react like a helicopter (a lil bit) and a bad A.. Jet? Is it possible to do so without adjustments in fs2002?  i'm young in aviation but I've heard it's possible. I love the Idea of this bird!

Also, I would like a senior mentor to help me with my aviation dreams. My friend owns a "Small Plane" and he let me control it for about a half hour. I've been hooked ever since...  he gave me this game to get me leave him alone with all the questions I have. I wanna go to school soon but, life is pinching my budget right now. I learn as much as possible on my own before making such an investment. fs2002 has been answering some basics. I WANT MORE KNOWLEGE! I WANTA FLY ALONE FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!
(Sigh)

Vertical take off for fixed wing aircraft is not modelled into any version of FS and a half heli half jet hybrid is beyond the realms of possibility also. So with the Harrier you have to extend full flaps and if the airfile is done right you should take off in no distance at all. But remember that Harriers in reality use a rolling take off as vertical take off uses up one hell of a lot of fuel.
