Pitch problems

Postby Rafiki » Sat Jun 18, 2005 8:14 am

I just downloaded the ATA 727 anniversary package and i notice that when the plane turns it starts porpoising.  Sometimes it will start in level flight.  It only occurs when Autopilot is running however.  Is it the Auto trim thing, and how do i turn it off?   ???

No, it's not auto-trim. In fact, the autopilot uses the trim to control the aircraft. If I recall, in the Aircraft.cfg file, there is a section called, Flight Tuning. In there is an item called trim effectiveness, or something similar. Try reducing that a little and see if your problem goes away.

Hope this helps.

I have similar problems. I have to push forward very hard on the stick to keep the flying machine level, otherwise it will go into a severe upward attitude and the death stall is soon to come. I have tried trimming, but nothing works. Suggestions?

In 'flight tuning' there is a line for pitch stability, which is normally around 1.0. Try increasing this to 1.5 or 2 to see if the porpoising stops. If it doesn't then it may be a bigger issue with the flight dynamics - some that are supplied with freeware planes are better than others.

Open the aircraft.cfg (taking a backup first) using Notepad. Scroll down until you get to the 'flight tuning' section.

fs need not be running ... open fs2002, that's in , my computer, program files, microsoft games, FS 2002.

open required aircraft file (left click) you will see aircraft.cfg (in any aircraft you open.) right click it, box shows up, OPEN WITH,  click NOTEPAD,
read down to flight tuning and make the adjustments if you want to. close the file , it will ask if you want to SAVE CHANGES it, click YES. gO FLY ....

another , easier, if all this is too much ... find a similar aircraft that flies just fine and open to the same cfg file in it. click COPY after right clicking aircraft.cfg. Go back to offending aircraft, or better, open it beside the new one and put the new cfg file in place of the old one, first SAVING the original to your desktop.
now the bad trim aircraft will use the new cfg file.
