Altimeter problems

Postby G-EORGE » Thu Mar 10, 2005 8:19 am

Whilst flying Stansted - C-d-G at FL210 (real world weather), my altimeter started messing around in that it would jump to 20 600 or 21400 etc.  Because I was flying autopilot, the alt. hold obviously kept trying to compensate and sent me careering up and down across the sky,  in the end ATC cancelled my flight plan,  does anyone know what might have caused this  ???

any change in ambient temp will obviously change the altimeter read out aswell, since colder air is more dense than warmer.
But from your point it sounds like you hit a tropical storm or something since you experienced a temp change of roughly 16 degrees C  ???

My question is why is your altimeter changeing on you by itself. I have never seen that before usually you have to press the B key to get the altimeter to change or do it manually. Just because you are on auto pilot your actuall gauge should not change on you by itself. ???

Like I said above. When the OAT changes in the Sim (which happens from time to time if you fly with online weather) the altimeter will have a different read out.
