Heliquestion

Postby CAFedm » Mon Jan 24, 2005 1:27 pm

Believe I read this somewhere but cannot find a link to it now.  Curious as to whether one can add a helicopter as AI, I have a medevac chopper that would be a great addition to local airports here.  Also, and this is going to sound really dumb, I have been trying to fly this thing on FS2002 (it is a BK-117) and for the life of me, cannot fly a helicopter without crashing - it spins wildly in yaw mode and refuses to land nicely, no matter how patient I may be.  There appear to be no tutorials on the finer points of flying these machines anywhere in FS2002.  Any resident helicopter experts, your advice would be most welcome.

As for Helos as AI, you can add them, but they will fly like regular planes (taxi and take off like them).  I wouldn't be the one to ask about flying them though, I still use the keyboard since I haven't the room for a stick on these dorm room desks.

Holger Sandmann has a series of AI Heli starter kits available here..http://www.simviation.com/fs2002heli30.htm to help you get started.

Make sure your 'autorudder' is turned OFF in a/c realism settings, otherwise the tail rotor is tied to your cyclic and virtually impossible to hover.

Check out articles and training services at http://www.hovercontrol.com/ to learn to fly a heli.

Cheers,
Dave

At that time [1909] the chief engineer was almost always the chief test pilot as well. That had the fortunate result of eliminating poor engineering early in aviation.
