Default (Newbie)

Postby bigyin » Mon Jan 17, 2005 6:38 pm

I got FS2002 for Xmas (bless her indoors's old cotton socks).  I've taken Rod's "Learn to Fly" lessons.  Had a few trips out from my local airport and am currently working my way round the airfields in Scotland (I eventually want to visit all the UK airfields as it's good practice for the old landings).  I'm a conservative guy so I'm sticking with the Cessna 182SP for the time being.  I'm running an AMD 2800XP with 512 MB and an ATI9600XT (after a bad experience with an MX4000 which was no better than the on board chip set).  Anyway, at the moment, my main frustration is the Default Flight.  When I first started using the program, it would come up in the main menu system after the Splash Screen.  After about a dozen loads, it started to load a flight automatically that completes even if you hit "Esc".  This wastes about 30 secs and is a bit annoying.  It doesn't matter to me that it's always Meigs, it's just that it loads at all.  I don't have the "Make this the default flight" ticked.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks again,
Bigyin   :(

Hi Bigyin. Are you sure you didn't change any options? I can't remember if there's one to load the default flight without showing the menu screen. Find FS2002.cfg in the FS2002 root directory & open it in Notepad. The entry right at the top should look like this.

[STARTUP]
ShowLogo=0
DEMO=0
LOADSIM=1
LOADWINDOW=1
SHOW_OPENING_SCREEN=1
STARTUP_DEMO=

If yours is different change it before exiting Notepad. Save changes on exit & try it. The menu screen should load as before. You might like to back up FS2002.cfg before editing it just to be on the safe side.

PS. Alternatively, check the the top option from Options/Settings/General on the 2k2 menu bar.

Both methods should do the trick.

Hi Hagar,
I had unchecked the "Show opening screen" box as I assumed it related to the Splash screen (although it didn't stop it loading).  I've now unchecked and it works a treat.  I also checked the .cfg file and it's as you say it should be.  Many thanks.
Are you the Grumpy who runs the Over the Hill pages?  I'm now 61 and am a Senior G.O.M. (and not ashamed of it).
Thanks again for helping me on my way.  The bad news is you may hear from me again.
Cheers
Bigyin.
