Aircraft compatability

Postby phil509 » Thu Nov 25, 2004 5:29 pm

:-[ Like an idiot, I bought the Captain sim 707 and tried to use it in 2k2. All the info shows up-but no plane appears. Is there a way to fix it? Ive had this trouble before with other 2k4 planes, but those were free. :-/ Please help :'(

Phil, with one plane there is a way to make it appear by zooming all the way out in spot plane view and zooming back in. I suggest you try that, or go on a rampage around your town... I'd try the first one.. :)

Yes,of course I have a recipt, but an online purchase/download is difficult at best to return when the company is in the UK and Im in the US. Its not Captain sims fault-Im sure its a fine plane-I simply dident catch the "FS9 ONLY part" Buyer beware. I tried zooming in and out-no dice.Id like to upgrade to FS9-tried that to (another $30 bucks out the window),but my Compaq presario with 2.7 ghz & 256 ram cant handle it at all. Go figure, FS8 runs perfectly-sliders full open I get 25 to 30 fps. Lesson learned-no more payware (this was my first and LAST time),and no more M$ crap. (they sell products that only the highest end, most expensive machines can run, forcing one to spend a fortune to use it,thus lining their pockets with even more billions) Ive browsed the FS9 forum-sounds like nothing but trouble. Oh well, live and learn. ::)

??? In regards to this problem, would swapping out the .air and .cfg files with ones from a known good 707 save the day?,or does the .mdl file control all the visuals? ???

or does the .mdl file control all the visuals? ???

Yes. If it's a proper FS9 model created to FS2004 SDK standards it won't be compatible with FS2002. It is possible to convert the MDL file by various methods but this can involve a lot of work & the results are rarely satisfactory. I would hesitate to suggest doing it with a commercial product. The AIR file will almost certainly be incompatible too. If you start swapping things around to make it work you might just as well use a freeware version of the aircraft in the first place.

As you paid for it I think contacting the supplier & explaining the problem would be the best way over it. They could possibly suggest something or offer you an alternative. If the 707 doesn't work in FS2002 it's obviously no use to you.
