I think even having ATC in FS was a very good thing. I suggest you put up or shut up about how "bad" the FS ATC is! I'd like to see you guys program better!

That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh. i just did a test flight somewhere in sydney, and i the ATC said nothing but let me slam into the freaking building. I hate da ATC and i which i could configure it somehow. BLASTED ATC

Pfft, were you on an IFR flight plan?  If not, ATC is not required to give you advisories like that(even when you ARE on an IFR flight plane they're not required to give you advisories like that).  You shouldn't have been flying an airbus near the buildings anyway, they won't move for it! If you don't know anything about real world ATC, don't make assumptions.

I agree with the guys complimenting the programers.  I am also getting a good laugh reading about the problems some people have had.  This should be a regular topic discussion "How ATC ruined the flight."  HAHA

Hehe, ;D, this is a good topic. I got so frustrated with it that I just never use the ATC directed ILS approaches any more.

My first experience was making a simple flight from San Diego (Lindberg Field) to John Wayne airport in Orange county- about a 25 minute flight.

Slammed me right into the side of a mountain- invisible on a moonless overcast night- about 10 miles east of the airport.

Whats funny is even if you see an obstacle coming and successfully avoid it, the ATCer loses patience with your tardiness in following the last instruction and discontinues directing your flight.

This ATC snit can be avoided by repeatedly asking the ATC to repeat the last instruction until you are clear of the mountain/building/whatever and back on track.

I confess that I almost never use the ATC controlled ILS flights anymore- although I do still use the ILS aproaches- but I get myself into the glide path on my own.

Plus, after getting FSNav early on, I am getting pretty adept at choosing safe waypoints for approaches in mountainous areas like the Rocky Mountains- one trick is to program waypoints along rivers when possible during final decent and approach.

ATC controlled ILS aproaches can be quite accident free though, especially in relatively flat areas- like the low atolls and such of the South Pacific- and the Sahara Desert, too! Hehe! Watch out for intermittent sand dunes though!

Cheers,
Chris

i finally have to thank the ATC even though it is very stupid. :o :o I was on approach with a CX 777-300 after a  usual flight between Hong Kong and San Francisco. I was doing my final procedures and just before the short final i suddenly spotted an A340-300  taxiing out to the runway. It was almost completely on the runway and i was "thanking" the ATC for a wonderful job of letting me crash.  i was about 64.5 feet of the ground and i was in complete shock for about a second becuz the next second atc told me to do a go around. i fortuneately pulled up just in time. even though i found the ATC quite stupid in FS2k2 i must admit it saved my long flight from a complete disaster. :D :D

PS: i couldn't get any screenshots becuz i was sweating like s**t from head to toe.

Ok Nexus, what I mean is that in VFR conditions you're not going to hear "Umm, airbus 13, there's a giant building at your 11 0'clock, report it in sight"

Note how I said ATC DOES provide seperation between you and terrain objects.

Beefhole, take a minute and ask yourself
How often does an Airbus fly VFR?

You got knowledge, but learn to use it ;)

Oh btw, the "Traffic thingee" is TCAS (Traffic and Collision avoidance system), GPWS is the ground Proximity Warning System and that would've saved that King Air  ;)
