Framerate Improvements?

Postby ILS_Idiot » Sat Oct 02, 2004 2:30 pm

I have looked over many (well, ok...ALL sixty-eight) of the FS2002 scenery download pages because I was sure I saw a download for general framerate improvement somewhere. I know you may be thinking I saw the one for Chemnitz Inner City (I did), but I thought there was one that was for overall improvement. Would the one for Chemnitz work for all of FS? If not, are there any utilities I should look for?

I have a 1.6Ghz P4 with 512mb of RAM, and a 128MB Geforce FX 5200.

I've never seen any framerate improvement downloads.

I think I've seen a framerate improvement download at either avsim.com or maybe even here... not sure though. Have you tried looking in the miscillanious downloads for FS2002?

Well judging by your system specs...Your max FPS is going to be around 25 with most sliders pretty high.  Your system is close to mine...Or...before mine crashed last night :-[  Same graphics card, same ram, almost same proccessor.  But i was also running Windows 98SE and a friend with a similar system has XP and seems to get much better performence.

Ive just upgraded my graphics card to the GeForce FX5200, also and im running it with XP.

The graphics are great but when i arrive over airports with add-on planes as AI on the ground, the frame rates still drop badly.

Im currently running 256MB of system RAM with 128MB in-built on the graphics card.

Would upgrading to 512MB or even 768MB help improve these frame rates?

Ive noticed lots of people claim an improvement in frame rate with 512+ RAM on tap.

Upgrading your RAM does help in performance.

You wouldn't stand a chance to get CFS3 running with 256 mb RAM but with 512 mb you get decent performance.

Upgrading the ram is recamended... I origianaly ran on 256 till i was gave another 256 stick.  It made a nice improvement... But windows xp also pulls on ram.  but there is a max to how much is acualy used.  I think 98 only allows 512 so there is no point in having more.  and XP can handle a gig.  So there is something to think about as well.  But after using my friends with XP i would say 512 is pretty decent.  Though both of us use FS2002 pro and when i tried FS2004 out my frames went from 25 to 2 or 3....But some people get it to run great...I guess it depends on the type of system.
