:)Can anyone of you "whizzkids" please help me how I can improve the STOL capabilities in the aircraft.cfg files of aircraft like  DASH 6 or FOKKER 50. In my FS2002 they will not in general fly below 140 kts on short final. I have tried numerous downloads all of them of outstanding visual quality but somehow I want to make them fly "slower" on fnals

bootfoot,

I don't have the Dash 6, but do fly a Fokker 50.

The F-50 has an approach speed of 112 KIAS (at flaps 35) and crosses the threshold at 102 KIAS. Those are the speeds for a fully fueled bird weighing 45,900 lbs, heavier than the max landing weight. Speeds are about 10 knots slower when the fuel tanks are nearly empty.

The model I'm using is by Christoph Klose. I got it from flightsim.com last year; filename is f50noapu.zip.

I don't know what model you have, but 140 knots is definitely too fast. Is there a prop adjustment that you can make to reduce thrust?

Don't fly props but are you using the flaps?

Dear Jerry H. , thank you for your kind reply, let me explain a bit further, my name is Peter I am 51 years of age and a dedicated, but not expert, simmer . I do know my way around in the most important aspects of our hobby; standard procedures FMC controlled flights  ILS approaches etc.etc. I live near Schiphol(EHAM) so I watch planes take off and land there frequently, also I have flown in F50 many times(as passenger)The planes I talk about really come in slowly between 80 and 100 kts. or perhaps even less on touch-down  I guess.
The landings I talk about are fuel 20pct , full flaps , gear down(???) glideslope +/- 3% prop pitch aoa about half
I have among others the following : dash8-300aeu , Dash7c1 , SYF502k2 , 146f2k2 all from AVSIM or simviaton. What really puzzles me that only Dash7c1 the four engined Turboprop really has excellent STOL
capabilities, it does come in at 80 kts and lands at 60kts as rightfully stated by the authors. Also my 146f2k2 has absolute perfect slow speed landing capabilites. So why the difference?, it has to be somewhere in the CFG file, hence my question(I can send you the above fles if you like) but thankx again for yr reply see you Peter

Peter,

I downloaded SYF502k2.zip from AvSim. I did not install the F-50; only took a look at the aircraft.cfg file.

While I don't claim any expertise on the F-50, it was interesting to see some of the differences between your F-50 model and mine. For what it's worth:

Your wing incidence angle is set at -0.5, while mine is set at +2.5. Don't know what the right number should be, but -0.5 looks fishy. Probably set to that value to "fix" the cruise pitch attitude.

Under (GeneralEngineData) your engine_type=1 (for a jet), while my engine_type=5 (for a turboprop).

Under (TurbineEngineData) your static_thrust=9316, while my static_thrust=400.

Also, my .cfg file includes a (turboprop_engine) section while yours does not. Listed under this section is:
power_scalar=1.0
maximum_torque=11241

Not sure what the next step should be, but you might experiment by changing the engine_type to 5, adding the (turboprop_engine) section and reducing the turbine's static_thrust. If the engine changes help, then you can fiddle around with the wing incidence later.

Keep in mind that you should only revise a copy of the aircraft.cfg file. I always rename the original to aircraft.orig.cfg. Then edit and save the changes. If the sim is still open, you must first select a different aircraft and click "OK" to force the sim to load different data. Then select the F-50, "OK" and "Go Fly".

You'll have to decide if any of the above is worth all the trouble; if so, let us know how it turned out.

Dear Jerry thanks again for your reply which came a lot faster then the aircraft we talk about. What I mean is: off course it's possible to make an aircraft fly slower just deploy the airbrakes if fitted but then you will lose a "realistic" descent profile , the plane will just fall down. Also there may be some setting in my DXDAIG
with my soundcard acceleration that could be adjusted  Now I will try out each and every suggestion that you made especially the engine type and thrust details and keep you nformed of the progress. Thankx again (if you like some fine EHAM shots (which  I made myself) just
