Problem with airplanes

Postby RobertSubnet » Tue Sep 07, 2004 12:01 pm

Greetings all, crash and burn newbie here. Shortly after purchasing FS2002 I found this site. It has been very informative.

I've been experiencing a problem with addon aircraft. Hopefully someone here has seen this before-apologies in advance if this has been covered.

I've downloaded and installed a couple of airplanes from Abacus. When I attempt to use them I get an error message to the effect of:

C++ Runtime error. The application has requested an abnormal termination....

Clicking on OK brings FS2002 to a halt.

My box is running XP with SP1. I don't recall the exact DX version, but it is at least 8.x. I haven't installed SP2 yet.

Any comments or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hello Robert and welcome to the world of Flight Simming.

I am still using FS2002.  You seem to be implying that this problem only occurs with Abacus aircraft.  May I suggest that you download some aircraft from this site and see if you have any similar problems.  Whereas I cannot help with any tech details, I can say that this site and other freeware sites have excellent models, a wide variety, and they all have served me more than very well in FS2002. I have not had any problems with any of them as regards the operation of the sim.

DX is up to version 9.0c I believe, but I do not know if 8.0  would be causing any problems.  Also, there was a recent enough post re: SP2.  Before you install SP2, you might do a search for this (sorry, don't remember where it was or who posted it).  After reading that post, I decided against installing SP2, at least for now.   Again, can't tech on SP2.

If this problem still occurs with downloaded aircraft, or even with the stock models, I would not be able to help, however, there are other simmers here who can.

Hi Robert. As the problem seems to be with Abacus aircraft the best people to help would be their product support department. It's quite likely they've come across it before & there should be a fix.

There is a known conflict with some earlier 3rd party aircraft & WinXP. Patching the MDL files with the MDL Repair Utility should fix that. http://www.simviation.com/fs2002utilities_ess1.htm
There used to be a similar utility posted on the Abacus site.

There's plenty of excellent freeware aircraft of all types posted right here at SimV. You might like to take Apex's advice. Try a few to see if you have the same problem.

Apex & Hagar: Thanks for your comments. The problem seems to be only with Abacus airplanes. Most of the aircraft I have downloaded from here have worked.

I have contacted the Abacus tech people, so we'll see what they have to say.

Like you Apex I am unsure about SP2. I will probably back everything up first (need to do it anyway) and then install SP2.

Hagar thank you for the MDL repair link.

Will post more on this as details come in.
