Great Britain: Aircraft registration letters....

Postby Fozzer » Tue Aug 31, 2004 2:12 pm

Hi Lads... ;D...!

In the U.S. the registration details on the fuselage, and recognised by Air Traffic Control, is the letter "N", followed by a series of numbers.

Over here in England the registration details are the letter "G", (designating Great Britain), followed my a dash, followed by a series of letters....

Now my registration letters printed on my fuselage, and recognised by ATC, are "G-BPLF", Golf Bravo Papa Lima Foxtrot...
(Note that on certain flight sim models the designer allows the printing of the registration details on the fuselage of the aircraft when typing in the call sign)... 8)...!
But now ATC insist on calling me Golf Minus Bravo Papa Lima Foxtrot... >:(...!
...which is bleedin' annoying... ;)....!

Is there any way that the  text on the aircraft remains correct but that ATC are prevented from including the word "Minus" in the radio communications.... ;D...?
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

Cheers all... ;D...!

Paul.

Ay Fosbury!! Check your planes Aircraft.cfg for the lines:

atc_id=N700MS
atc_airline=American Pacific
atc_flight_number=1123

The atc_id= line. Have a fiddle with this for a bit. Failing that, this will acept a space. Use that and paint the dash onto the fus side.... lol....  ;D

The root of this problem(once again), is that programmers at M$ refuse to aknowledge the existence of a world beyond the United States. Either that or they just took the easy road, by applying FAA rules to the entire, simulated, flying planet.
In the US N12345k is listed as such and not N-12345K.
But while we're on the subject. How come the rest of the world hasn't dropped the,alphabet-in-one-go,tail numbers?
"one-two-three-four-five-kilo" seems sooo much less taxing than......oh......say......."golf-foxtrot-november-charlie-whiskey-kay-beck!"
.....so I loaded up the plane and moved to Middle-EEEE..........OIL..that is......

To remove this problem the only way is to put your callsign as GAWPU (without the hash). Just have a try and see what works for you really. I myself and not fussed about being Golf - Alpha Bravo Wiskey Papa for example.

Hi swayne...
Removing the "minus" sign cures the ATC radio problem, but makes the letters painted on the fuselage incorrect on certain aircraft where the aircraft designer allows the registration letters to appear on the fuselage when selecting your ATC name...

This problem only occurs on non-US aircraft... ;)...!

In the UK the registration letters start with G-XXXX.... ;)...!

Cheers all.... ;D...!
