Fav. locations to fly

Postby Foxtrot Sport » Wed Jun 30, 2004 11:42 am

Hey, I am new to this site and have had FS02 for about a year.  I was wondering wat some of the most scenic or just your fav. flights are.  I have been doing many alaskan flights, but, 3.5 hours being my longest flight, I am still a newbie.

Well, if you want the most scenic flight, fly around the world. It's a lot of fun, especially in the King Air 350! My longest flight to date is 5.8 hours! 3.5 is pretty good. 8) Don't try 5.8 if you don't have patience, I have a little, so I just put it on autopilot. But, if you don't feel like flying RTW, look for a post in this board titled Easter Eggs in FS'02. That will keep you busy for a while. ;) BTW, welcome to the site and the forums!!!

I've done over 18 hours in a single session, and my bottom still hasn't recovered. Touring Europe is always a good giggle ;)

nothing beats landing in NYC on a clear night...travel up the Hudson River before making approach into KLGA...you'll get a great view of the city and opportunity for some great screenies!

It's worth downloading the North American scenery mesh (available here in many chunks!) which makes the terrain contours more accurate. Then flying the West Coast is a lot of fun. Also you can download addon scenery for the Caribbean islands (http://www.flytradewind.org/scenery/carib.htm) which is a huge improvement from the flat areas supplied with the default FS2002. Island hopping up the Caribbean chain is then great fun - cruise ships and everything!

I'm doing all 50 US states alphabetically in Boeings at the moment!

I suggest Greece and Aegean Sea. Mountains and islands with waters of different colours (deep and light blue).
Try airport LGIO for a mountainous experience and fly west to LGKR where you will be flying directly out the mountains to the sea.
Also, try LGAV to LGMK, LGPA, LGNX and LGSR for an island to island trip.
LGSM looks from the west like a mountain coming up from the sea.
More eastern to LGKP for one more mountain-island and do not missa landing in the most eastern part of Greece the small island Kastellorizo (LGKJ) with its 900ft runway on high groung and the cave right below the west approach of the airport.

There are are more interesting flight to do in the area but be prepared for a challenging experience as many runways are short, very close to mountains and the winds are usually strong.

I can suggest you a little:
Trondheim, Vaerness AB Airport (ENVA) to
Tromso, Tromso Airport (ENTC), Norway
for an about one-hour journey (in Learjet45).
Adopt a VFR flight along the coast.

And have a nice time!
;D
