how do winds aloft affect groundspeed?

Postby monkeyboy726 » Thu Jun 17, 2004 5:41 pm

i was flying over the atlantic the other day and i was noticing that high headwinds seemed to increase my groundspeed? how is this? i would think that a strong tailwind would increase groundspeed. i thought it might have something to do with increased lift...could anyone help me out plz?

Headwind DECREASES groundspeed but INCREASES the true airspeed, and that's the end of the story.
