The service ceiling on FS is 100,000 feet.  So no, no space.
Great edit, Bob.

I am going to go out on a limb here and say that it is not possiable to go into outer space with any version of FS as of to date. Although I am not sure what would happen if you used slew mode and held down the Q key I would imagine it would run out of scenery at some point & time . I have to admit I have never tried it. 8)

may be a bit off the topic, but if you haven't already you might want to download the shuttle simulator at http://www.orbitersim.com   ... it can keep you occupied a while ;D

Well, it is designed as a Flight Simulator not a Space Flight Simulator so I would get the orbiter sim for doing space flight.

Try Orbiter... I think Avsim has all the base packs and add-on craft :)

Ah okies. Thanks mates. But is there a Shuttle for FS2002? Or any decent experimental aircraft about such as the X-1 and X-15? an SR-71 Blackbird would go a treat too.

Not sure about an X-1, but there are shuttles and Blackbirds around.  Don't remember where, but I know they're out there because I've had them in my hangar.

Search for them and they should appear.

There is also a Bell X-1 in the FS 2000 section.
