Activating ILS

Postby bluegreen » Sun Apr 18, 2004 4:42 pm

I like to fly instrument landings with the Cessna172 but for some reason ILS does not respond during the approach. I've got the radio working as best I know, I've got the VOR Indicator at the correct degree heading, but the localizer doesn't respond to anything making instrument landings impossible. How do I get it to activate? Thanks.

You need to tune the NAV1 radio to the ILS frequency.

Make sure the airport you want to land is ILS equipped (see map mode, below).

Start the sim and sit on the runway.

Go into map mode (or FSNavigator if you have it) and get the ILS frequency of the runway.  When you scroll through the radio codes you should see the ILS frequencies of the various runways.

Tune NAV1 to the ILS frequency.  The localizer and glideslope indicators should jump around as soon as you have tuned to it.  For aural confirmation click on the NAV1 button on the radio panel and you should hear morse code corresponding to the ILS ID.  Click again to turn off the beeping.
