Screen Resolution?

Postby chief1995 » Tue Jan 27, 2004 2:58 pm

I have a new system and I am running FS2002 on:
Win XP
Pent 4 2.80 GHz
512 MB of Ram
Radeon 9200

My monitor is an NEC MultiSync LCD 1765.

My question is what screen resolution what be the best? It can go as high as 1280x1024.

Thanks

I'd guess that with those specs, you could probably afford to be rather liberal with your resolution....play with it though and see what works best for you!
Great edit, Bob.

One other thing to note- There is usually a trade off between AA and screen resolution. For example I use a resolution of 1024 by 768 with AA times 6.  Others I know use a higher resolution but lower AA.

The only thing I can think of is anti-aliasing.

Thanks Hyperion  ;)

Yes, I was refering to anti-aliasing. My reason for mentioning it with screen resolution is that AA smoothes the appearance of the screen. The same effect is achieved (in a different way) by increasing the screen resolution.

As both use of AA and higher screen resolutions usually require more 'power' it can often become a trade off between these two items.

I've noticed a real improvement in frame rates with AA (anti-aliasing) turned off, but how do you adjust the value of AA?
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. But why take the risk?

Thanks Guys,

All good advise, I have mine set at 1280x960 with AA on, seems to work good for me, no loss of performance.

You can change the AA in Flightsim, but I find it better to use the video card control to adjust AA. Look under start/settings/controlpanel/display.

I don't have as powerful a system as you and I run 1280x1024 with aa on and it does me fine: go here to see images of my flights:

Look at the last picture of Leg 14 and you will see what I mean. I am running a 1Ghz p3, 768MB RAM, msi ti4200 128MB VRAM and have no problems.

By the way is that DC-3 you're flying? I really like your panel. I have a DC but with different panel.

Thanks,

If I remember correctly, it is on Mark (Dark Moment) Beaumont's page here: http://www.swiremariners.com/dc3.html along with all of his DC-3 creations. Also, take a look at the MAAM site and the R4D-6 they have, it is really something special (except for the nav lights).
