GO AROUND ??????? (!!!!)

Postby simone_lux » Wed Jan 21, 2004 12:12 am

Hi, sorry for the char size ;D

Yesterday while I was landing at Zurich I got a airplane before me. ATC told me to land, nr. 2nd for land, I did it. When I was few millimiters from the runway he told me to "go around" !!!!!!!!!!!!! >:(

I shot the throttle to full speed, rotate to maximum and try to climb again, I miss the airplane in front of me for a matters of millimiters as well........

My realism settings are all set to the maximum realism (including crash detection and plane damages), and I damage the rear gear during this "performance", so I cannot land anymore...

A question for a real pilot (I know there are several in the forum): does this HAPPEN also in real aviation ????? I hope no.... 8)

Ciao,
Simone ;)

In the real life; ATC would first and foremost alert you which type of aircraft you're behind. Then they would take actions to at least have 5nm separation distance between you and the other aircraft, and they'd ask you to decrease speed to XXX knots to maintain that distance...aslo, most commercial airliners are equipped with TCAS so you'd be aware of the whereabouts of the other aircraft aswell.

Conclusion: it would take lots of human errors to create a scenario like you experienced yesterday  :)

Thank you all for your answers... :)

In fact I was thinking that, just want to be sure. Next time I got a airplane before me, regardless of the wind, I will decrease the speed to minimum and go to full flaps (I usually use less flaps and higher speed when the wind is gusty, to have a better control of the direction).

Cheers,
Simone ;)

The FS ATC is a little unpredictable in the way it brings planes in at airports, so if you have a lot of AI installed, you need to keep your eyes - and your wits - about you! There are TCAS (Traffic Collision Avoidance System) gauges out there that allow you to see what's around you which might be of assistance. Eric Marciano's freeware gauge works well in FS2002 (don't know about 2004), and one of the modes allows you to see all around you, even if this isn't reflective of real-world TCAS installations.

No problem.

The gauge is in Eric Marciano's F16 panel, which you can download from:

[OT]It's the year of the Monkey, one of the most awaited "year" in China (for "luck", over a billion of people which believe in luck...). It occurs once every twelve years, as for all the other symbols.[/OT]

Your little tale aint unique in any way.
In busy airspace, small props are often disregarded. Sad, but true. But slow airplanes tends to disrupt the "flow"..I'd like to see a Piper being able to have an approach speed of 140kts  ;D

Nice little wake turbulence you must have had, being only 1/2 miles behind a 737 ;)

Hi all, I must have been unlucky then, 3rd time up in a Piper pa28 a 737 got very close to me, probably less than 1/2 mile, we had to take action to avoid a mid-air, not bad considering we were clear to land!! Then to cap it all we came in again and the number 3 to land landed infront of us, got an ear bashing from ATC took off and went round. I landed safley but shaken, not bad all in 1/2 hour Regards Chris
