My buddy Hyperion will have some advices for you, either wait for his reply (he'll see this thread, dont worry!) or why don't you send him a PM?
He'd be happy to answer it, he's so lonely anyway

Sure, Bag, no problem.

When you fly online, you're not flying alone.  There are other planes in the sky, only instead of being flown by your computer (this is AI) they are being flown by other PC pilots, just like yourself.

When you fly with live air traffic control, you're using a microphone and speakers (or through text, depending where you do it) to actually talk to other players who are working as air traffic controllers.  They sit and look at their screen, on which they're running an air traffic controller program, and guiding you safely to your destination.

It is, IMO, the most significant advance to the realism of flight simulation.  ;)

Essentially, it's a lot like real world airlines, without having to leave home all the time.

...and without being paid for flying as well. Don't lough someone asked wether virtual pilot are paid for what they do!!!

Anyway, I can add as "a new boy in town" (regarding online flying) that it is really impressive. However you have to know very well how to use navigation (VOR, NDB, enroute maps, ISD/STAR charts etc.) as well as Radio Communication procedures that is how pilots speak on their radio and what information is exchanged with the several controllers. There are plenty documents out there in VA and VACC. Another good tactic to built Radio COmmunication ability is to listen to others as they speak.

...and of course you must know how to fly well at least an airplane.

Actually, pilots on eSkyWorld.com receive virtual salaries for their flights, so they do get paid, even if it's fake.  ;)

Also, you don't necessarily have to know much to get started (at least with us).  We start all newhire pilots on the Beechcraft B1900D, and we're always around to answer any questions they may have.

We also recently hired a Vice President of Training, and he is hard at work writing a training program for our pilots to use.

Hyperion,

I have been to your site (prior to reading this thread) and I must say that I was very well impressed with it and I want to congratulate you. But although I am looking for a VA I didn't apply to join because I'm looking for a place where pilots have to submit flight logs to prove that they really flew the route submitted in the PIREP. I think that is more "fair play" and anyway how can one guarantee that pilot "a" or pilot "b" isnt
cheating by sending fake PIREPs?

Which leads me to the question: do you or anyone know a good VA where flight logs are mandatory?

Cheers.

My apologies if we didn't make it visible enough on our site.  Our pilots ARE required to file PIREPs, and in fact, they must do so using our proprietary software.

Additionally, our software automatically verifies the information submitted on the PIREP with information within F$ itself, thus giving us an accurate report, regardless of the information we're sent.

Any pilots caught falsifying their PIREPs are subject to disciplinary action.

If you are looking to get started with a VA you should join www.flyaav.com it has just been uploaded an is very interesting.  We already have a few pilots and are still looking for new ones.  We also have two staff posstions left as hub directors.  Please come and have a look, also you can join if you like what you see.  Please come and have a look.  If you require or would like any more information regarding this website please do not hesitate to contact me at iainturner_14@hotmail.com.
