Does anyone experience this?

Postby jrpilot » Fri Jan 16, 2004 6:36 pm

Hello,

After takeoff I will ussually have my IAS set for 180 but when I takeoff ussually at 98% or as close as i can get it the aircraft will speed up and then when I rotate the aircraft off the ground and begin to climb it accelerates very fast to about 250 knots on the GPS.

Does any of you experience that?

That's right, I'm now using an AMD! I decided to give them another try and they

This happens with nearly all jets, even real ones. After you lift from the drag of ground effect and the drag of the wheels on the ground the jet accelerates rapidly. Next time you're in airliner pay attention and you will notice it.

It is a matter of aircrafts attitude. As I fly mostly the 737-400 I set up 92% on the runway and when I just pass the rotation speed (about 144 KIAS) I raise the nose to 10-15 degrees. As the aircraft show a positive rate of climbing I retract rhe wheels (anout 300ft above the runway) and reduce the N1 to 85%. This attitude will keep the speed below 250 KIAS. However at higher level (approaching FL100) I reduce the pitch a bit below 10. I increase the N1 again to 92% when above FL100 untul I reach 280-300 KIAS. Also do not forget to raise the flaps gradually (2 degrees at 1000ft and 0 degrees reaching 200 KIAS).

SImilar is the technique for other jets.
