Advice for a puzzled pilot!

Postby djneily » Wed Sep 24, 2003 7:03 am

Hi,

I just got FS2004 and i'm not to sure if I got the right game! I have an AMD XP1700+, 256mb DDR PC2700 ram and an MSI GeForce MX440 64mb DDR graphics card running XP pro. When flying about my game becomes jerkey and when im near a more scenic area becomes worse and very frustrating! I have changed the settings and it works best on medium low @ 18 fps

I understand that 2004 is more frame-intensive than 2002, although I haven't seen it. Probably due to the improved weather and ATC systems.

18 fps is pretty good! My 2002 installation runs between 12 and 30 depending on the scenery complexity with all settings maxed. Personelly I see no need to go to 2004 from 2002, so will wait for 2006(??)

Little difference between 2002 Pro and non-pro: more planes (and therefore more gauges, hence downloads that say Pro-only, as they probably use those gauges) and the M$ flight dynamics editor, which is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

2002Pro has some additional aircraft in your virtual hangar, and it also comes with GMax (albeit an outdated version lol) which comes in handy if you're going to be working on designing your own planes, scenery, etc.

If it were my money, which it once was (lol), I'd go with Pro.  You may not use all the features now, but who knows what's going to interest you down the line, know what I mean?

And right now, with 2004 being so aggressively marketed, I'm sure that the prices of 2002 (both versions) have gone down a bit.
Great edit, Bob.

Google it.

FS2002 also has the G-Max editor which is out of date anyway.  Most of the required guages can be downloaded from other planes in any case, but I would personally spend the extra

I don't disagree with you, Will. My perspective is that you don't miss what you don't have, so 2002 Pro is fine with me at the moment!

Oh, and I forgot to mention GMAX - the photograph on the left is what you can do with it, if you're not very careful.

Absolutely mate, I don't miss it and I will also wait until the next incarnation before rushing out and purchasing 2004.

True, but it's the gamepack your after anyway that's only included with FS2002 pro. And you can easily upgrade to a later version ;)
