That's pretty much what I meant by 'longest flight'.  See who can stay in the air the longest.

How about a twin prop catagory. I've got a Beechcraft QueenAir that's just begging to go on a long trip.

This one is easy to fly, but it tests your skills as a "Pilot". You have to keep an eye on mixtures and prop settings, and trim it correctly. If you're careful, you can get some long mileage out of her. You can't just set the AP and let her go. You have to actually stay on your toes and FLY her.

Okay okay okay...this is getting out of control.

Since there's obviously an interest in this stuff, how about we nominate one person "Offical SimV Race Coordinator"?  They'll take everyone's suggestions, and try to apply as much of the original thought as possible, that way too many people don't get involved in the organizational aspect, thus confusing things beyond repair?

Any volunteers?

(Not it!)
Great edit, Bob.

I'd love to give it a go. I just had some surgery, so I'm taking it easy for a few days, before I go back to work.

I could plot a course from and to anywhere you guys want. But, to be fair, the allowed aircraft should be limited to at least GA types.

Just an idea... I could post waypoints. One, (and only one), post per day, here. With the day's leg of the trip. It'll be up to you to get there the best way you can.
Then a screenshot, showing time and coordinates at departure, then another on arrival for varification.

I got the time, if you guys want.

Or, what if someone set up an "official" racing circuit, like the NASCAR to simulated air racing?  A sanctioning body which would keep track of the results, point system, leaders, etc...

Might be kinda cool.  I'd do it if I didn't have all these other Scott-isms going on right now. lol

what is going on over here? Who is in charge? Is the race over before it has started?

Agreeing with Hyperion's point, I see that at least one person has come up with the idea of a single 'race-monitor'. Now, who's it going to be, well, is there going to be a debate about it as well? Just cut the unnecessary talk and start the race as soon as possible.

The participants would definetly be on the honor system.
Maybe a PIREP would have to be submitted showing your flightplan, time out, fuel load, time in and fuel remaining.
Points could be scored on time, fuel savings and flightplan preparation. Bonus points could be scored by either answering a question about a certain waypoint, that can only be answered by visiting that airport, or by finding a particular coordinant and explaining what's located in that spot along your route. The good thing about the bonus points is that there's only one correct resolution. Kind of like a road rally. You could have a daily clue that might take you slightly off course to find an answer to the question. Some people might get it. Other's might miss it all together.

There's so much you could do with this, and have pilots going nuts trying to solve the puzzles sprinkled along the route. That's the fun part!

Well, since it was Ender Baron who proposed the idea, I'd also nominate him to some sort of "governing body"....

Fish has volunteered, so if Ender is in, that would bring the total to two...

Are we going to form this Simulated Air Racing Association or what?  lol

haha SARA....add an H and it's my girlfriend!  haha

Yup.
Like I said. I've got plenty of time. And, It's Ender's show.

If you need me to help with anything, EB, just let me know.

WOW! :o  You guys are really getting behind this!  I'd love to do this, and I will help any way I can.   Anything that I can do that doesn't involve overseeing (can't think of a better word) online flying is great.

And Microsoft, yes, the race was over before it began.  We just didn't have all of the logistics worked out beforehand, so now we're going to really organize this and get it started right.

More ideas!  More ideas!  SARA rocks! ;D

My wife (also Sarah) doesn't mind people chanting her name, I think she could even grow to like it lol.
