Editing .CFG Files????

Postby Simviation2003 » Mon Aug 18, 2003 4:19 am

Hello Fellow Aviator's,

Just a quick and simple question for you,

At the top of the aircraft.cfg you have

[fltsim.0]
title=
sim=
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=

My question is;

What needs to be put in the Title=?
and what needs to be put in the Sim=?

I've looked at others but all seem to be different, (not actually relating to the specific aircraft)

I have a problem with CFGEDIT not recognizing my aircraft when I go to open it from the list (Open Panel.cfg by aircraft.....)
Could these commands mentioned earlier be my problem??

Any advice would be appreciated

Thanking you

Hi Sv, well the simple answer I'll show from the default models;

title=Boeing 737-400
sim=Boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=

Now if you add a new paintjob then you need to do something like this (note the texture= change ;))

[fltsim.1]
title=Boeing 737-400 Paint1
sim=Boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=1

Thanks Ozzy,

I understand what you mean,
But if I wanted to replace the original textures with new ones,i.e still only one texture folder, do I need to make the additional modifications?

In that case all you have to do is rename the new texture folder to texture.0 or whatever it is called, and copy it into the directory and overwrite the existing one.
Top tip: Backup the old file just in case. Call it texture.old before overwriting ;)

Thanks

I have this problem with a SAAB 340 with REX liveries.
I shall check the .cfg and do what yourv'e advised.

Just quickly, back to my first question, what stops an aircraft that is in the FS2002 Aircraft folder, works in the simulator but won't show in the list of aircraft in CfgEdit.

Any Ideas???

It might be a case of adding the aircraft to the list using FSEdit first (v.rare this happens though).

Yeah Nah, sorry Ozzy I don't think I have FSEdit.

Is FSEdit a stand alone application, or is it included in something I may already have???

Doug there are a couple of models where I've had to use FSEdit (it comes with 2k2 SV, just go into your FS root directory and scroll down you'll find it) to add the aircraft so it appears on the list of selectable aircraft.
Maybe its just my system?

Mark. As you know I've installed 100s of aircraft to all the M$ sims over more than 4 years. I've never yet needed to use that buggy FSedit to install a single aircraft or get it to show up.

Well! Hooray!! Someone else has the same problems I do!!! At last --not a lone voice bleating in the wilderness.

Sorry to hear you have those problems but you'll find FSedit on the main FS2002 page. I got so p#ssed off with the whole lot I rearranged the folders so I had the aircraft/FS2002/FSedit lined up on the top line to save mucking about finding the darn things.

You may find most a/c will load fine but some will show in the file but  when you load FS they aren't  there.
Exit FS and click on FSedit,open the File(top left hand corner)which should bring up a box with a list of a/c.
Scroll down until you find the a/c you've just loaded. The program will tell you it will create a file in'aircraft' or otherwise the menu bar at the top will show up the 'test a/c' switch. You'll soon see what I'm talking about when you go through the procedure. If the program creates an a/c go back to the 'aircraft' folder and you'll find another file of the same a/c with '.0' added to the file name. If you check back in FSedit you'll find that that a/c has been duplicated there as well ::)

After all that and FSedit hasn't told you the a/c is unavailable for editing go back to FS and the thing should be in the list. If it's not listed under the manufacturer try the unlisted section down the bottom.

Cheers and good luck!
White on White fly all night.

Red on White you're alright.

Red on Red you'll soon be dead.

Guys. All this messing around with FSedit simply to install a 3rd party aircraft intrigues me. How would you go on if you had FS2002 Standard edition (or FS2004) which does not include it?

Give me an example of an aircraft with this "bug" & I'll check it out. I'm convinced it's not necessary & there's a logical explanation. I suspect you did not install them correctly as FSedit creates a copy of the original aircraft in FS2002\Aircraft. Any CFG editing can be done in Notepad.

I got so p#ssed off with the whole lot I rearranged the folders so I had the aircraft/FS2002/FSedit lined up on the top line to save mucking about finding the darn things.

Colin. If you insist on using it create a shortcut to fsedit.exe & paste it to your desktop.

i find it easier when starting with fltsim.0 - texture.0 fltsim.1 - texture.1, gives you more an idea what is linked to what when you have 20 liveries in one folder

:o

Blimey, I wouldn't touch FSEdit with a barge pole

You can't beat editing aircraft yourself. Anyway you gain a LOT more useful information that way.

If an aircraft isn't appearing after you've loaded it there's a reason and FSEdit ain't the way to find out what the reason is.

It's a girlie program for people who don't want to delve into the sdk and find out what makes things tick. It might me OK for you (if you're a girlie :P) but it certainly isn't for me.

After the recent Beverley debacle, if there's a bug in the aircraft that I can't spot by direct editing I'd rather not have it on my system.

;)

PS
Under current discrimination legislation this posting is not intended to discriminate against girlies. Oh bu**er, yes it is

Thanks Roger. I had the feeling I'm fighting a losing battle here. LOL ::)

My offer still stands. Tell me where to download an aircraft that doesn't show up on the menu without using FSedit. I'll show you how to install it properly.
