Black Spoilers on the DC-10???

Postby GreG » Fri Aug 08, 2003 1:13 pm

Please could someone tell me why the FFX DC-10, well, all of them, have black spoilers? :(

Easy answer:  That's how they painted them.
Great edit, Bob.

dont know why but they do look ugly, the real deal is more of a greyish white to go with the rest of the wing, on both top and bottom of panels. or at least on the northwest 10's they are
side note hows the flying going greg?

Okay, that image wasn't showing up when I first replied.   Now that I've seen it, I hate to even say this...

That view is of the BACK of the spoilers on the port wing....could it be that you're seeing an area of the spoiler which does not have any light shining on it, giving it a black appearance?  It almost just looks like shadows to me, now that I'm able to see it...

How about a shot from the front of the wing?
Great edit, Bob.

Here's a few more shots, got this plane when it was released a week or two ago, and it's not a shadow.

Based on the shots you've posted, it's only the back of the spoiler which is black.  That supports my theory of it being a shadow....

The front of the spoiler is silver-ish grey.

Yeah I know, but they're black all the time wherever I go.  If you look at the wings of other planes you'd always see the back of the spoilers, even if they are in shadow, but M$ haven't created aircraft self shadowing yet so they couldn't be a shadow, they're just black, including the leading edge of the flaps.

Are you looking at the same images I'm looking at?  The leading edge of that aircraft's flaps is not black at all.

As for the BACK of the spoilers, my suspicion is that they were designed to be black to represent a shadowed area...

Am I losing my mind?

No no no, sorry, I meant underneath the spoilers, not the leading edge, it just looks so ugly with the black, pitty, cause I quite like the plane.

Greg

P.S.  Thanks for replying in such good time! ;D

Right, and what I'm saying is that I think the designer/painter did the underside of the spoilers in black to represent shadowing....

No problem...I usually get replies up pretty quick as I have a very boring job and I've usually got the forums up in the background most of the day.  lol

yeah no textures were assigned for that part of the aircraft when designing that beaut...instead to save time and posibly space they just changed the colours of the polygons to black instead of adding textures.....bit of a shame realy
