How many Monitors?

Postby Ronnie » Mon Jul 21, 2003 1:30 pm

How many monitors do you use for FS? I only use one and I would like to get a second monitor for the upcoming FS2004 and wanted to ask some people who use them how they like them.

I run a single 17" monitor.  I had toyed around with the idea of multiple monitors for a bit...a journey which led me to the world of the Homebuilt Cockpit.  Fortunately, I was able to stop myself before I became completely obsessed, and decided to spend that money on my real world private pilots license.

However, I'm still not through with the idea of a small flight deck type thing in a spare closet I've got.   ;)
Great edit, Bob.

Hi Hyp.... ...!

...so you're into doing a bit of "bombing" in the toilet then...?
LOL...LOL...LOL...!

LOL. I don't think I want the full flight deck, though. Just an extra monitor so that I can keep the sub-panels where I can see them.

Hi Ronnie... ;D...!
I've got 4 spare monitors, (I don't know why. ::)..), and my nVidia GeForce 4 Ti 4200 card and software has provision for running two monitors, but I haven't come across any one, (even here), who has managed to get the set-up working... :'(...!
I don't seem to have enough sockets to connect two monitors to my graphics card... ::)...!

Cheers mate... ;D...!

I've got two sockets and last night, I hooked me TV up to it and I got it to work. If you run XP, what you do is plug the new monitor in, go to Control Panel, and then go to Display. Go to Settings There should be two boxes, each one with a number in it. The one with the number one on it is the prmary monitor. The one that say two on it is the secondary. Right click on the one that say two and click on attached. There is a little place in the bottom which you can check that reads "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor." Click that. You're done! To remove the second monitor, follow the steps above in reverse order. I have a Radeon 9500 Pro, so it might not work with a GeForce, but you can try! Good luck.

I voted saying "one".  Which is what I do most of the time.

But I have a home network here that supports a couple of home computers and ties into my (small) business which is based out of the converted barn attached to my house.

So I have a couple of network connections available here next to the machine FS is installed on. They are for another cpu used as a server and for my laptop. Occasionally I will connect my laptop and run an aircraft based radar display on the laptop.

So I fly on one monitor.... but have the radar display available as another instrument.  It is fun....... you get a real perspective or what is going on around you.  Helps with situational awareness.  I have seen pretty much NO hit on framerates.

Unfortunately I don't run it all that often.  Usually no time to set it up.

My radeon 9600 pro supports two displays..... but I haven't even tried that yet.  First of all...... no room on the computer desk.

I too am one who given half a chance could "bust the family bankroll" on setting up a virtual cockpit if I let myself get too involved.  This darn thing IS addiciting  ;).

best

I work with an 17'' monitor and an 35'' tv.
I use the tv for the main view and the monitor for the panel. And I love it.

You're welcome, Fozzer. By the way, there are these new inventions called housekeepers. They visit once a week and clean up after you. Try looking into one. LOL, J/K;) ;D
