Slew Control

Postby hiflyphil » Thu Jul 24, 2003 3:20 am

Hi everyone  ;D

I'm forever practicing my landings as you know your passengers expect a soft landing each time.  :-/ (AIRSICK)
I'm steadily increasing the wind speed which adds a greater challenge to the job.
But rather than having to take of every time, which is the easy part, circle and line up, can I use slew control to increase my altitude so I'll just be doing the landing part?  ???

Cheers
Phil :D

My understanding is that if you use slew mode to climb to any altitude, and then turn it off, you will be set in motion flying at 250 kts.  At least that's what I remember........

You could try this, positioning yourself for the downwind approach, but I wouldn't try doing it for the final approach.  The biggest problem, other than not being able to set your airspeed, is that you can't set your flaps, rudder, or trim as they would be set for the final approach.  And by the time you would have them set, you would probably be over the airport.  Interesting idea, though! :) :)

This is what I did for practice.  At a certain part of the approach I saved the flight and labeled it.  I could then go back at any time and retry from that point. 8)
Where is it written?

Okay,

Here's some interesting news.  I just tried starting from an airborne position using slew mode and it worked fine.  You have to set your flaps and autopilot settings beforehand.  Wait until after you've come out of slew mode to engage the autopilot becuase engaging the autopilot while on the ground can mess up your trim.

I've tried saving flights while on final approach and it doesn't work too well.  It will save information regarding your aircraft's position and scenery details.  Flight control settings are another story............

I think the slew technique will come in handy! :)

???

ok still a bit confused, I can use my joystick to move the aircraft around the scene, but its stuck to the deck, I can't see how your getting altitude.

I don't want to save a position as you obviously cant set different wind speeds and directions each time you load it back up.

Cheers

Sorry, Phil!

I happen to be a keyboard user.  The keyboard command to go straight up is "Q."  The command to go straight down is "A."  I'm not knowledgeable about joysticks, so I don't know what to tell you........ :(

Press Q or A and leave it pressed so you can go faster, then press 5 on the keypad with num-locks off to stop it complitely.
