I'm a bit confused

Postby Simviation2003 » Sat Jul 19, 2003 2:44 am

Hello fellow aviators,

Sorry for asking this, but before I download an aircraft stipulated FS2002 PRO , is it compatable with my stadard version (FS2002 STD)????

Also, Frame rates - can some one give me a breif description on how this affects the simulator and to what setting it should be for the following;

Pentium III (806)
384 Mb Ram
Nvidia Riva TNT 64 Video Card
Creative Vibra Sound card.

I've found that since setting up my Microsoft Voice controller everything is running slower, Any tips???

Look forward to hearing from you

Regards

Right aircraft that are stipulated as Pro will often have default gauges that are only available in Pro.
If you download the aircraft it will work, but you'll have to edit the panel to replace the missing gauges (this is fairly easy). Otherwise it'll work just fine.
As for frame rates, there is no point setting it higher than 30 (this is faster than a TV), as you can't see the difference and it wastes pointless processing power.
Voice controller uses a fair bit of horsepower, so it will slow things down a little, to overcome this you really need more RAM (512mb minimum), and probably a faster processor.
One good way of speeding things up is to lessen the amount of AI traffic, as that is a real killer on frame rates, and also play around with your scenery settings but not your resolution.

The easiest way to use an FS2002 Pro aircraft in FS2002 Standard is to realias the panel & maybe the sound. This is the quickest way to check out the aircraft in the sim. If you like it you might wish to look around for suitable 3rd party replacements later. Check out my Aliasing article. http://www.simviation.com/lair/aliasing1.htm

Thankyou both hagar and Ozzy72,

Your replies were very understanding, thanks for the simplicity.

I done a little bit of creativity in CFGedit, so I shall try a PRO aircraft and see what I can do.

In addition I will set the frame rate back to 30 and try it.

As for more RAM, and a faster processor, I'm still working on the Mrs to unleash the funds to upgrade.
It's a pitty she doesn't have the same interests in aviation as we do!!!!

Thanks again
