Overspeed

Hey all you knowledgeable people out there,

How do you change the 'overspeed' setting, so that I get a plane to go faster? I have a 727 that overspeeds at just over M0.8, and I want to increase this to M0.9.

i think when it says overspeed

it just means that you are going over 250 knots under 10,000 feet....

i may be wrong

Isn't it that you are forcing the plane to go too fast? Well, I don't handle heavies much.

If you open the aircraft.cfg file you'll find all the necessary settings in there, and can alter your cruise and top speeds.

"Overspeed" is a warning intended to inform you that you've exceeded the speed that the airframe was designed for. This WILL end in a broken aircraft, and crash. (Not to mention a highly ruined day).

I would suppose that it depends on the aircraft, but I found that parameter for my C-5 in the .air file, under the heading "Max Speed". I edited that from 500 kts to 750 kts, and made sure that the limit needle was now correct on the gauge.

Now I go much mo faster!

just remember the 727 like most commercial aircraft is usually limited to about mach .85 thats if you wanna stay realistic

I wanted to increase my 727 to M0.9, as I thought that it was capable of doing this in real life. I had a 727 in FS2000 that would do M0.9 - was this a mistake?

According to my pocket guide to commercial aircraft, the 727 is capable of 530knts groundspeed at 33,000 feet. The only true way to speed up the aircraft is be adding MORE POWER! But if you don't want to play with all your air files, simply turn off "Aircraft Stress Causes Damage" in your realism settings. This will allow you to exceed top structural speed.

I heard that some airliners can go even faster than that. The 747 for example has been clocked at Mach 1.0 under certain conditions.
