Audio Issue

Postby Scottler » Thu Jul 17, 2003 9:26 am

Hey all...

In an effort to not drive my girlfriend to drug use, I want to run my headset AND my speakers simultaneously.  What I would like to do is just be able to turn the speakers off when I want to use the headset, and not have to go around back to switch from speakers to headset..

Anyone know how I can do this?  I've tried using a splitter, plugging both into the one end and the single jack into the speaker out, but that still disables my speakers, and I'm left switching back and forth still.

Any suggestions?
Great edit, Bob.

Hmmm... well, there went my suggestion.  I am using a splitter from on sound card to another (no headset).  I guess I am also fortunate enough to have a headphone jack on the front of my PC.  Sorry I couldn't help.

I've also got a headphone jack on the front of my box, but the problem is that the mic input is in the back.

Gamevoice has a device that lets you select by a switch that is on the puck that is on your desk and you can change back and forth from several different channels for your mic as well.

If the splitter doesn't work then I got no clue either. Right now I have my headset plugged in, and my speakers too........when I don't want my speakers I know which cable to pull and the headset is left alive........when I want to speakers again, I plug in the right place....it is like second nature. I can give you a picture of the back of my PC without a camera :P......anyways, it isn't too hard, you get used to it.

EDIT: WOW, I post this one minutes after Oso and Hyperion replies the same minute I post. This is like a chat room I tell ya :P

My apologies Hyperion, I didn't realize (you didn't state either) that you were using a mic.  Why don't you get an extension for the mic cable and run it to the back and plug the headset in the front and the mic into the back? You can usually get the extension at some place like Radio Shack.

Doesn't your sound card have different output settings?

You should be able to plug your head phones into their specific jack, leaving your speakers plugged in, and simply change the setting on the card. Turtle Beach/Santa Cruz and Sound Blaster Cards have this capability.

Opps! Now that I went back and read your post....

Radio shack makes Heaphone Extention Cables that will work. A second mini jack extention will work on your mic, too. About $3.99 ea.

haha....I know about the extensions...(used to DJ for a while) but I was hoping to find a way around that.

It does, however, sound like the easiest solution, so I'll probably pick one up tonight.

Thanks guys!

And yes, this does sound like a chat room...but it's better because my I.T. guys don't pick it up as me visiting a chat room.  lol

Who do you think bought me 2k2 Pro for my birthday?  lol  I was perfectly content with 98 (until I used 2002 of course.  lol)
