Gotta have a DVC. All my planes usually have DVC. Unless I like the panel/texture job. Prefer a DVC tho.
And we don't complain, because they take much more time to make. So we don't complain. As long as they make the plane, I'm happy.  ::)

For the most part they eat framerate!!
A good 2D panel is hard to beat and
most of the time easier to fly with and
you don't have to resize them all the
time!!!

bleh,
Maybe so.... but still, I don't like looking out of a plane that isn't really there.

Take a stand X

1. You are never sure that you are looking straight ahead.

2. You have to keep moving your viewpoint to see the relevant dials.

3. You cannot interact with it.

1. If your drfiting, then you know your not straight ahead.

2. Don't you have to anyways in real life?
"As real as it gets"

3.At least the gauges still move, plus, I've heard of some DVC panels that are interactive. HA!

Sorry... Couldn't resist!

Well a DVC adds much more realism to the experience IMO. To make sure your looking straight head, just hit 8 on the number pad...In FS2004 you will be able to click on the knobs and switches. Personally, i rarely fly a plane without a DVC. (Exceptions are the DSB planes and Meljet series, but hes gonna have a DVC in his future 777 model) I dont know, a DVC makes me feel like the designer put enough effort into makin a plane and makes the model seem more complete and special. the DVC puts you 'there' in the cockpit. Adds some sort of virtual atmosphere and makes you feel for once that you are the pilot. I dont know about others, but i love lookin around the DVC and moving the eyepoint and all. Panels are there to provide you with the gauges and a nice little image of a cockpit. But its more realistic to have the entire thing. Well thats my opinion.

A DVC is a nice bonus, but if a plane doesn't have one, then I'm not really heartbroken about it.  There are some times when I'll be flying and I'll want to look closely at something that caught my eye...I'll use it for that, but that's about it.

When it comes to the actual act of flight, I'd rather have an exceptional 2D panel myself.  (And if possible, a 2D panel that has a full 360 degrees to it...I found a GREAT 727 panel that had all photorealistic textures from the entire pit...even looking back through the door into the cabin!)
Great edit, Bob.

I really think the use of a DVC comes back simply to how many hours you use the aircraft. I was greatly annoyed trying to transition from real flying to using FS and DVC. With more hours up I'm used to using the top hat to flip around to see what's going on. In real terms it's called 'situational awareness'. It's like all things-practice,practice and more practice. More interactive DVCs please :)
White on White fly all night.

Red on White you're alright.

Red on Red you'll soon be dead.

i for one can't live without the DVC

like it was said, it PUTS you into the cockpit, and makes you feel like you're actually flying...
the 2d panel just doesn't do it for me

and once you get used to moving your viewpoint with the hat switch, it gets quite natural and don't even think about it anymore.
not to mention that you need to apply the same amount of effort, if not more, to change your view in the 2d panel

and if you can't center your view, just hit space.

i spend 90% of my flying hours in the dvc, the rest in spot view, so  never use the 2d cardboard cutout panel

i say it's indispensable   8)

I used to spend a lot of time in spot view, then I discovered Active Camera....I haven't used spot view since!  lol

Their "Fly-By" mode is just amazing.
