Planes??????

Postby born_2_fly » Wed Jun 25, 2003 10:47 am

Ok here is a very silly question to some of you but not to me!! it is pretty much a 'yes' or 'no' answer but i would also like the procedure!!!!

Is it possible to load planes onto my flight sim using a Re-writeable CD???

I don't think so. It's hard-coded into fs2002.exe that you have to have all planes in the fs2002\aircraft directory. However, I think that even if it were possible, it would still load the plane from the CDRW into the RAM. But I might be wrong on that one.

If you are asking about adding planes into the flight sim, you can access the "Help Tutorials" at SimV Home and get your info there.....its very helpful stuff and takes away the mystery........

Scenery is the only addon I know of that can be accessed from a remote drive. Everything else (including aircraft) must be installed to its correct locations in the FS2002 directory on your HD.

Hi Born to Fly ...

You know - hard drives are very cheap. I am well aware money levels are relative & what is an hour's minimum wage in one country is an average month in another - (your profile doesn't indicate your location..)  but this may be your ultimate & easiest option ...

Just download them onto a cd-rw and take them over to your FS2002 computer, and install them there. That'll work fine.

Yeah!
If your parents machine has a CD-R, you can download the zip files, burn them on a disk then unzip them into your machine.

That's also a good way to keep track and catalog and archive all your aircraft.

I've seen that before, too. Some aircraft are Read-Only.

If you use Winzip, you might be able to right click on the Concord folder and then choose "Add to Zip". Make sure "Include System and Hidden files" is checked and click OK. This should create a new Concord.zip file.

You "should" be able to drag that new zip file to your disk. Depending on how you set up the disk to be burnt.
I like to use a CD-RW, and keep the session open, so it can be used like a regular drive that you can drag and drop files into and out of.

This works good for me. Hopefully, it'll work for you too.

You could also consider networking the 2 machines together. It's easy to do & basic network hardware is cheap.

Pete...that's something that I was thinking about doing once I get the OS back up on the old computer...could you email me a little more information on how to do that?

I've already got a hub between the two computers to split the cable connection, the rest is what I don't know.

Thanks!
Great edit, Bob.

When you come to a " Read Only" file ...right click it, then select "Properties"...........you can then change the file attributes to "Archive" and do what you want with it.......if this " Read-Only" problem is happening when you are reading the file from a CD,  first "copy" and then "paste"

I think the problem is you are trying to move the files from the cd to your computer. Try copying the files using the copy command and not the move command across because once a file is copied to a cd it automaticly becomes a read only file. once the fi8les are copied to your computer you then erase the cd and start again.
