[quote]i totally disagree with the idea, not enough buttons etc, BUT i thought of something, what if microsoft brang out there own "PC Console" with a small keyboard and mouse dedicated for games only, which hooks up to a tv (nice and portable unlike the PC as fozzer said earlier

As that would mean a processor of a speed no less than 70Ghz, I'd say that's wishful thinking...

I just read on another forum that Sony does in fact claim the PS3 will be 100 times faster than the PS2, with a release slated for 3 years in the future, is it possible we will have 70ghz machines in 2006?!? :o

I wouldn't rule it out but frankly, I don't see Sony can possibly be in a position to predict that.

To reach 70Ghz in that time period would require the development of as yet unknown technology.

I think they're just p***ing in the wind personally.

It does seem a bit outlandish doesn't it?
I can't imagine what it would be like..70ghz???
But then again it was only a couple of years ago I was drooling over my brand new 900mhz, the fastest kid on the block, then it was the 1.4ghz p-4 and now I'm up to a 2.66 ghz, and the 3.06ghz is already out!
I'm pretty sure that the way things are moving, my next PC will be in the 4-5ghz range or better.  I try to upgrade every two years, so according to Sony in 2005 I should be able to buy at least a 50ghz!!! ;D ::)

It's worth noting that the reasons the graphics are so good on a PS2 is that the processor is performing very few other tasks.

Once you intoduce the kind of calculations need to display gauge readouts, AI traffic, all the millions of calculations need to run FS2002 correctly, a PS2 would be at a standstill.

Don't you think the PS2 could handle something along the lines of FS98 or 2000? To us computer gamers this may seem unthinkable, but for dedicated console gamers this would actually be a big step due to the lack of flying games available for consoles.
When you consider that the PS2 has a bay for a hard drive which I don't think is available yet, USB ports for a keyboard and joystick (or even a flight yoke), the network adapter, and the graphics capabilities, basically you have a setup similar to what we were all gaming on a few years back.
If the PS3 is half of what they claim it will be, I think it will be able to run like the machines we are using today.
Now going back to the original question, I think it would be great for console gamers to have a flight sim, even if to us PC gamers it would be a major step backwards in realism, PC games are always way ahead of console games anyhoo.
Oh, and just for the record, I won't disagree that flight sims and gaming in general will always be better on the PC, but I love my PS2 also, preferably for sports games.
And I am enjoying this debate because I use both, and yes I am defending the PS2, but the funny thing that I've had this very same debate defending PC gaming, there are gamers that think the consoles are the s**t and PC are nothing but a headache.
The PS2 has it's problems too, everyone I know is on their second one, including myself, at least with a PC you can usually work the bugs out yourself, when a console takes a dump what can you do? And with the PS2 cost at $179 now, you might as well just get a new one. Almost seems like Sony planned it that way.

i havent had a problem with my PS2 since i bought it, and its even taken a few tumbles to the floor, just lucky i guess. i also havent noticed any of the DVD problems like it was said to have like the green lines and so on i do admit a flight sim would be a huge step up though

At the moment, I reckon TV's are better platforms for graphics.  Computers have a long way to get to the stage PS2 is at, well, not a long way, but the graphics look so much better, I have a PS2, so I know the difference.  They are also making harddrives and things for playstation, so wait till PS3 comes out, it might just have a built in hard drive, or you could buy one, so there's the answer to not just having 1 CD.  It'd make it much faster as well.  And I do believe that PS3 will be up to that much faster, the rate at which technology is advancing is undescribable, so who knows, no one can say it's impossible.  My favourite saying is "never say never."  Nothing's impossible.....  I mean, how much faster is PS2 than PS1???  There's quite a big difference, in speed, and especially graphics.  They've also managed to animate effects and things really well, without slowing down.  And all you would really need to fly planes with would be a joystick or special yoke with as many buttons as possible put on it, and a mouse with it, you don't really need a keyboard, if you have all the buttons on the controller.  Just an idea to think about.  Who knows one day, M$ or someone will release a flight simulator console, no games anymore, a whole console devoted to flying aeroplanes, a mini training flight sim!  With cool glasses you put on and you can look around the cockpit with them, and I can go on for at least another hour!  Could probably write a book on it!  Ah well, the future is almost here!

Happy Flying anyway,
Greg

i havent had a problem with my PS2 since i bought it,

You are one of the lucky ones, I'm not exaggerating one bit when I said everyone I know has had to either exchange their first one, or currently own two of them because the drive on the first one started getting disc read errors, and eventually would only play certain games.
Maybe we got a bad batch in this area, or the original shipment from Japan had bugs,we all bought them within 3 months of the release, but I don't anyone who has had problems with their second one.

i know there were two versions, the first one was easy to crack the DVD portion on it, but then i  think 6 months later they released the second version and it wasnt easy to crack and a few updates to the OS on it. because i didnt get one for quite a while i am guessing i got the second version or how ever many updates later:)

There you go. I think I remember reading somewhere that Sony had some deal going on to fix all the earlier versions, but I never dug into it.
Just look on ebay sometime for PS2's and see how many are listed that need repairs, it's crazy.

Re: Flight Sim for PS2?

I bought my PS2 in England in December 2002.  And I haven't had any problems.  And I love it, especially the racing games, and some of the sports.  I have F1 2002, which is great, NFS Hot Purstuit 2, which is also cool, and I have Gran Turismo 3, which is good, and bloody difficult, and one of the best, Madden 2003!, I may be a Zimbabwean who doesn't play American Football, but I sure love the game!  My cousins in Houston have it and that's why I got it, I got addicted to it.  PS2 can be very addictive as well, hell, in January when I got back from my big holiday in England and the States, I started playing, I think, NFS, at around 20:00, then moved onto GT3, trying to get my lisences, which took a bloody long time, got half of them, looked at my watch, then looked at my window and realised at been at it all night!!  I had never done that before.  And I must say, my thumb ached for about 3 days!!!  Both actually, but mainly my right one, from holding down the bloody buttons all night!!!!  Happy PS gaming.
