Filing a flightplan

It's been a long time since I've used the flight planner function in FS2002, but as far as I can see, it isn't working for some reason.

I select Create a flight. Then go to flight planner. Enter my departure and arrival airports (EGCC and EGLL for example) , hit find route and save it. Then I press ok and nothing happens. I end up at Meigs.

I know I must be missing an obvious step somewhere, but I can't for the life of me see what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?

Yep - done that. Same result.

It's really weird. It's saving the plan alright (checked in the folder and it's there and it prompts me to overwrite it when I re-do it).

I have this error too. Here's how I get around it.

On the main screen, select your position as your departure airport, and the gate you want to start at. Then go to the flight planner, select it to start from your gate, to your destination. And then do the usual IFR/VFR GPS/Lo/Hi/etc and save it, before clicking Fly Now. Then that should work.

Have to do that everytime!

*Slaps forehead*  - Well done Jim. I had the bloody thing checked. Unchecked it and problem solved.

It's sole function is to stop your new position being loaded when you load a flightplan.

Off-hand, I can't think of a reason why you'd want to, but I'd checked it by mistake.

The flight planner will let you start a flight only at a runway threshold.  It doesn't have to be the active runway but if you choose any other runway you will be directed to taxi to the active.

So if you wanted to start from the parking area you would have to uncheck "relocate", place yourself at the parking area, then load the plan.  Start the flight and you will be instructed to taxi to the active for takeoff.

So Tipster could have flown from Meigs to his designated plan start point and started an IFR flight from there.

I stopped using this option I kept forgetting that it was on.

Jim (webPA) beat me to it!  I use this feature as well, but I enjoy it since I like starting at the gate and often create and file my flight plan while idling, checking weather, etc.

So with this feature you could actually get on an IFR flightplan inflight, right?

I don't think so, but I'm not sure. I think you have to request permission to take-off as part of FS2002's IFR flight plans, and obviously you can't take off in mid-air...!

Interesting reading the replies. I have not used the f/plan for an eternity. Whilst it is good for some to use FS atc, once I had flown online with Vatsim/Ivao, I could not bear the robotic voice of FS atc. You can't beat talking to real people on atc. If you have not tried it, have a go. If you are nervous about using voice you can always use text and still get as much fun.
I am not intending to slight anyone who uses fs atc, just stating that online atc is exciting and my personal favorite. cheers all.
