Runway and taxiway lights???

Postby GreG » Thu May 29, 2003 1:41 pm

Please could someone tell me why the runway lights look so much dimmer from the cockpit, than VC or any other view?

Greg,

Hi.  I have noticed that too lately.  I could swear that the lights used to be brighter....and that something that I have done has changed their intensity.  Don't know what it is that I did though.

best,

The file used for them in FS2002 is halo.bmp.

You can make them brighter by going to http://fsw.simflight.com/FSWFs2k2Lights.html and choosing from the various options available from the package there.

Just be aware that the lights are brighter when veiwed in VC and will be extremely bright in that view if you upgrade.

Halo.bmp is also used as the tail light on some aircraft (C172 being an example). You can therefore expect that to brighten too. Just be selective in your choice of size and brightness from the package so as not to turn your tail into a lighthouse.  ;)

If you'll notice, all lights have a fixed size as well..  When viewed from afar, NAV, landing, and strobe lights are shining "huge" in comparison to when viewing the plane up close.

Is there anyway to fix this? AI and my aircraft always look like they're just lights, and no plane, when at a distance.. It's like seeing a round mess of mixed-colored lights and identifying THAT as the traffic ..
Keep out of IMC in VFR,

The size of the lights is an option in the package I mentioned above. Unfortunately, halo.bmp is usually only used in the tail light as I mentioned.

The others are often to be found in the effects folder. If you scroll down your aircraft.cfg to the lighting section, you'll see the names there.

It's almost certainly possible to adjust the parameters for them in there.
