Hi all! Thought people might be getting a bit bored with it so I haven't posted any pics for a while. Still working - here are a few more.

The park and stadium on the approach to rwy 13 are really important visual landmarks to help with the correct approach so I've been taking a lot of trouble with em. Here's the stadium

Image

And yes, I've even included the swimming pool and tennis courts as well! Plus I've kept the lights on to help with night time landings.

These are some of the advertising buildings with the old fire station in front at the rwy 13 threshold.

Image

And here's the Airbus taxying towards the main terminal just coming up to the new fire station with what is either a hotel or large office building behind, don't know which, but it's curved in a horseshoe shape with a hole in the model - all correctly modelled.

Still moving ahead and aim to start on the terminals soon.

Hey Roger,
How's it going?  Your scenery is coming along really nicely!  Can't wait, hopefully by the time you release it, I will have a faster processor and will be able to fly in Hong Kong!

Thanks guys. Sorry it's taking so long but so far I've managed to keep everything pretty accurate for location and appearance. But I have to say that my stuff just don't compare to those ZSHC pics that I put up the other week! :)

I love those Kai Tak shots Ken - can't get enough of em. Daryl, Colin and many others have put together a fantastic historical record over the years. I've got a folder full of dozens but I've concentrated mainly on the buildings and stuff that I need as references.

Sad to say that you could hardly land a Cessna there now. Most of the rwy has gone as well as the south apron and all the HAECO and Swire buildings around the north apron.

Soon Kai Tak will only live on in FS2002 which was why I wanted to do this in the beginning. I guess life has to move on - but it's a shame really. :(

looks great, but its going to be a big eater of frame rate, aint it?

I've got stacks of different sceery add-ons in the Meigs area. My fps are only between 8 and 12 there where they're around 20-25 for O'Hare even with a fair bit of A.I. knocking about.

It's only a personal preference but I'll sacrifice fps for eye candy every time where scenery is concerned. As long as I don't come to a grinding halt that is and I find 7fps is still workable in FS2002.

I'll add a poll to this - lets see what the rest of you think..

What I'm trying to do is have scenery 'features' which everyone recognises as Kai Tak and are as true to the real thing as I can make em. I put a lot of detail into each one and this makes them cpu intensive. However, so long as they are spread around the scenery and are not all in view at the same time, the fr effect is reduced as much as possible.

Trouble is you can only do so much on eg the main apron where you have a lot of AI (fr killers) plus building detail which also slows things down. But it's the detail people want - I know I do - so what can you do? Not much in a case like that - there's just no way to provide realistic detail AND a high fr

Something you might consider here is that I think it's pretty unlikely anyone is ever going to do such a detailed rendition of Kai Tak again, as it's long since closed.

With that in mind, Roger's scenery is likely to be the best available for a very long time, if not indefinitely. Consequently, if you consider that it may well still be in use in years to come when hardware will undoubtedly be significantly faster than it is today, I think you'd be disappointed if the eye candy wasn't present.
