formation flying?

Postby Oso » Mon May 26, 2003 10:48 am

I have seen the add-ons for formation flying for the airshow teams. But I was wondering if there is a program for regular formation flying and it would duplicate whatever aircraft you happen to choose to fly? Say, like, for cross country flying or something like that?

Would be a hoot to transport a wing of P-38s or B-17s to England. Or 29s to the South Pacific.

Anyone seen or heard of such a thing for FS2k2? Or would the airshow team files do what I want?

I've not come across a file that will allow formation flying for any aircraft.

That isn't to say there isn't one of course, but as far as I'm aware, files of this nature are specific to the planes they're created for. I've a feeling the "formation" is contained in the mdl file.

Oso why don't you just use TTools to create a series of AI flights, and then you can do it, this is probably the easiest way to solve this one.

There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

Have you ever tried catching up to one of those AI planes? Don't know what they are putting in their gas but I wish I had a couple gallons of it for my MC.

The other problems associated with generating it via the AI route are that first, you couldn't get the AI to fly in formation as such. Assuming they all took off from the same place, you'd have them all in a straight line with at least 2 minutes separation between them generated by the interval between take offs. Tht assumes that nothing is coming into land inbetween these take-offs which would make the spacing even greater.

The other problem is that if you wanted to perform some kind of aerobatics routine as you can with the exisiting packages, the AI would just completely ignore it.

Still, unless someone comes up with a generic file , I guess it's the best suggestion.

You could always get a buddy to fly with you. ;)
