:)No offense taken at all.bottom line is this was a bargain basement special machine that is in no way geared up for gaming. Its fine for everything else;general surfing, records keeping, online banking,mp3's,etc-just not the heavy duty demands that flight simms requier.I just need to keep all my settings on low and turn green with envy when I see these awesome screenshots you guys post!LOL :-/ :'( ::)
To bad I cant make a living out of this, but it would probably kill me.

All interesting reading.  Concur with most advice and just add this for extra weight:

My 600 MHZ computer with a GEForce 2 32MB and 387MB of RAM running Windows 98SE

WAS MUCH FASTER THAN

my 1.8GHZ computer with a GEForce 2 64MB and 512MB of RAM running Windows XP.

So there you have it.  XP and FS2002 resource hogs?  We're not talking hogs here, we're talking pet elephants.

FS2k2 is very demanding.  It requires a top of the line computer to run well.  You might get it to crawl on an old machine, but you'll miss all the fun.  Only a top of the line machine reveals all the beauty of the scenery.
One I tried settings recommended for a low end PC and I was horrified by the poor image quality.  Ifyou like I can send you some pictures taking on my PC (a 2.4GHz + Athlon, 512 MB ram, Radeon 9700 pro).  Just send me an e-mail and I'll reply with attachements

You have to be careful with your phraseology there Dan.

A "top of the line" PC is now 3.6Ghz with an ATI 9800.

That pitches yours somewhere in the mid-range section, completely at odds with your own comments.

Heck, my machine was "top of the line" when I got the parts. By the time I had it all together, software loaded and everything fine tuned it was just a little off. Now it's about midrange. Of course there was about a six month lag in there because I couldn't afford to get everything at one time.

I know what you mean. I bought my AMD 1.4 ghz a few years ago when it was considered 'fast', now you can't even by a new computer at that speed :-/
