New boy with 2 questions.

Postby Jab45 » Sat May 17, 2003 9:34 pm

I only found this site two days ago and it's given new meaning to my FS.  ;D

Q1. Having spent the weekend downloading/installing some new aircraft, I notice that it's the lines starting with 'ui' in the aircraft cfg files that provide the information for the dialog box when selecting aircraft.  However, I cannot select the Piper Cherokee that came with the original software, even though it has the relevant lines in it's cfg file.  Any ideas please?

I realise that it's not massively important but it's bugging the hell out of me, having spent several hours trying to get to the bottom of it.  ???

Q2. Does fs automatically use all aircraft available as AI traffic?  If not is there a way to make it select them - I'm tired of seeing the usual suspects, Boeings and Cessnas.

Many thanks in anticipation of any replies I might get. ;)

Hi Jab and welcome to the forum. :)

Q1 - There are 3 aircraft that ship with FS2002 that are A.I. only by default, the Piper being one of them. However there are several files avialable in the File libraries to make them flyable.

The ones I find best personally are:

p180rd.zip (For the Piper)

dh-8fly3.zip (For the DeHavilland Dash)

md83fly3.zip (For the MD-83)

Q2 - FS2002 uses the first 3 paints of some of the default aircraft.

To introduce a whole host of real world airline liveries and aircraft to your A.I., pay a visit here:

Hi Jab,

Things to do with AI, AFCAD and Ttools are all covered in depth in the AFCAD and Ttools forum.

Look back at the threads over the last few weeks (or even months!) and you'll find everything you need to know has been discussed on a number of occasions.

Im glad Question 2 was asked, something ive forgotten to ask about in the past.

I never get many planes parked at even major airports like Heathrow etc. Dunno what the problem is. :'(
Also can someone tell me where to go on the site that was provided above? ;D

(Note for Kevin@projectAI: This gets asked a lot - constructively, perhaps someone could take a look at the site navigation. If you're unfamiliar with the site, it's an absolute nightmare finding your way around. I know Frank like's titles like "Certified Resources" but honestly, that means nothing to most people. "Downloads" would be a lot easier for people to understand.)

Ok - first you need the base installer.

Click "Certified Resources". Accept the EULA and then click "Airlines". On that page is a link to "Installer Program" under "PAI Installer Primary files". Download it from there.

On the same page are all the passenger airline packages. I'd recommend avoiding anything marked "Old Installer Format" - they're all being converted to the new format in due course.

Going back to the "Certified Resources" page, you'll also see "Cargo". Download all those.

They self-install with the Base Installer really easily, and all the New format files work fine with an automatic installation. (I have the lot).

So basically if you install the BA stuff it will install BA aircraft and set flight plans for the game? ;D

Thats pretty cool. :o

That's exactly right. :)

It installs extra A.I. aircraft (suitable for AI use btw - not all are by any means) and automatically installs the flightplans for you. All you have to do is sit back and avoid all the extra traffic.. ;D.

I'm just curious do you guys use the Most Realistic AI flight routes for your AI or just the default ones that come with PAI? For those of you who don't know about Most Realistic AI the site is here...http://mostrealisticai.projectai.com/ Me personally I only use the Most Realistic AI routes with aircraft I download off the internet if PAI doesn't have the airline I want eg. Northwest.

I just use PAI plans at the moment but....

Before I rush off in d/load frenzy, can I just slap these in after amending the Aircraft details or do I need to remove the PAI flightplans first?

You'll need to remove the PAI flight plans first and really the easiest way to do that is to download the two restore packs from the PAI website to restore all of your FS traffic to default. Then use the airliner traffic removal pack also from their site. The important thing to remember is to keep the aircraft and textures that are required for the most realistic AI routes then reasign your numbers. You could leave the PAI routes you've already installed and just reasign the numbers but if you think about it that would be really dumb because the traffic.bgl file would be huge with nearly double the routes and could possibly freeze up FS since no one really seems to know the maximum amount of flight plans allowed. I hope I didn't confuse you more. Just ask if you have questions and I'll try to explain.
