One for the A.I. aircraft Gurus

Postby FSTipster » Fri May 16, 2003 10:08 pm

Ttools is a complete mystery to me! I've never really bothered looking into it, and I probably never will LOL.

I'm pretty conversant with AFCAD though.

Ok - having got that out of the way, this is what I want to know:

Which entries in an aircraft.cfg file are used by FS2002 to identify which aircraft it uses for a flightplan?

What I want to do is re-organise my FS2002 aircraft list by amending the U.I. entries. I have loads of aircraft in there that are purely A.I. most of which come from Project AI stuff.

So, if I change any of the U.I. entries, is this going to mean that FS2002 will no longer recognise the aircraft when using it in a flightplan and mess my A.I. traffic up? Or is it a different entry/entries that it uses to identify it for this purpose?

I'm surprised Tipster. I'm no expert at the more complex side of it but  found the basic principle of TTools pretty easy to figure out. AI aircraft are recognised by the title= name in Aircraft.cfg. I'm not sure the UI entries affect anything except the FS2002 menu itself.

Epic! - thanks.

I can safely re-organise my menu then! :D

Before going too mad you might like to try a sample first. ;)

LOL - well that's the trouble you see - I haven't  clue what A.I. aircraft are supposed to be where, and when.

OK. I'm 99% sure on this but I wouldn't like to be the one to cause you problems.

Despite my earlier comment, I've read the ttools readme. It's not as bad as I always thought and unless someone knows differently, I agree with Hagar's assesment. Purely the title that controls things as far as I can see.

I may even have a go at doing some flight plans if I feel really dangerous.. ;D

The best way to tidy up your menu would be to make  those AI aircraft into proper AI Only drones. Change the Aircraft Type in the AIR file from 0 to 2 to remove them from the menu.

Hagar - you have a crystal ball!

I just finished reading the ttools doc right to the end and was about to ask if that was a viable oprion!

Problem solved! :)

LOL. I'm up too early. If I'd been wide awake I would have suggested this in the first place.  ;)

Tipster!
I'm suprised. I thought TTools would have been "old hat" for you.

If you haven't already, you'd be pleased with how easy it is. I was adding tracks when I first sat down with it.
(That's saying a lot for me  ;D)

Later!

And flexible too. For example, I've put the FS2000 BA Concorde as a daily Heathrow/JFK flight, (which is where it will stay - even at the end of the year - boo hoo!).

You can put any plane you like in, although a good idea is to do exactly what Hagar said, and dedicate a file in the aircraft folder to each AI plane. Also, use the default .air and .cfg copies insptead of the files that come with the aircraft concerned. Using the default aircraft files means the TTools is much happier in handling the planes, so they'll actually land, rather than going around or not landing at all.

Thanks guys. :)

Apart from thinking it looked complicated, I've now remembered the other reason I previously decided against delving into ttools:

Have you any idea how long I could sit playing with this?? I'll be 85 before I fly the next leg of the RTW if I don't put this away! ;D
