Kai Tak IGS/ILS System

Postby RollerBall » Sun May 04, 2003 4:12 pm

In case anyone's interested, I've just uploaded a file called KTak_IGS.zip so people can set up and fly the approach to runway 13

Image

It's not a full scenery - just the landing system. I'm still working on my full new Kai Tak scenery and will be posting updates from time to time on my website

Great stuff Roger! How is the scenery going? I'm bursting with excitement at the prospect of being able to try Kai Tak properly!

Hi Mark,

Slow but steady.

To give you some idea of what's involved, it's taken over 2 days to create the artwork for the ads for only 3 buildings that are next to the rwy 31 threshold. See below - recognise these 2?

Image

And there are something like 6 or 7 major buildings with ads and maybe a few more smaller ones. Then I need to actually make the buildings themselves...it's a long job and it can get a bit tedious.

The only solution then is to go and fly it!! Coupla hours of that and I'm ready to start again

;)

Hiya Ken

Yeah that ole Dash 8 shines up good for a quick paint job doesn't it?

Like the Chinese characters on the roof? I nicked them from Martin Strong's nice little A320 China Southern repaint. I hope they're accurate and don't say something rude!

Same goes for some of the characters in the ads I've done. You just can't see them clearly in the photographs so you just have to make strings up using the characters you've got. It would be terrible if I accidentally created the most amazing Chines swear words or insults!

;D

...... and this is what you eventually end up with - at 1.00 am

Phewwwww

The buildings in the background are only temporary (they're by Eddie Chan) but surely this could be ONLY one place?

Details (and charts) enclosed in the download.

The IGS was just an ILS offset 47 deg from the runway. It had to be because of high ground to the north of rwy 13. On the approach you operate normal ILS procedures but on a heading of 088 deg M. At the middle marker

Sounds like a complicated approach!

When the final Kai Tak scenery is released, will it include this approach release?

I'm one of the people preferring to stick it out until it's all done so to speak, so if it isn't going to be in the final package, I need to go get it now.

It's looking terrific by the way.

John, yes it will.

I've just extracted the IGS stuff and put it together with a chequerboard ( the final one will be nicer!) to meet the needs of people who email me to say that it's missing from my orginal files that opened up Kai Tak in FS2002 (about every 2 or 3 days!)

They don't seem to mind that my original release doesn't have water between the taxiways (the real place does of course) and the buildings were just based on my imagination!

Both of the above will be corrected in the new version which I'm trying to make as accurate as I can.

BTW the IGS file doesn't have proper ILS info in for rwy 31 (gotta keep something back!) The full release will have frq 109.9 as per the chart and markers accurately placed (working and tested on my PC).

Thanks Roger, that's very good news as far as I'm concerned! :D

I'll wait patiently for the whole kit and kaboodle. ;)

All these young pilots better brush up on their manual ILS following skills. They're going to need 'em.

Good challange. Can't wait!
