:o ???Are these files located here at Simviation?

Sorry Phil, I'm terrible at remembering where I get files from. :-/

I'd recommend trying a search here first for the file names (I get a lot of stuff from here), but if you don't find them, scout the other major libraries.

Hey Ozzy, ANPE, phil509:

How do you put in the picture on the left side of the post screen (e.g. like phil509's space shuttle)?

I reckon as this is my 100th post, I ought to customise the little devil that's there already.

Thanks!

Let's be happy with what we've got compared to what we had 9 years ago!

I agree with you !
Myself having started with v5.0 and going all through 95-98-2000 and finally 2002 there is a hell of a difference between them as such.

Open your profile through the main menu and type in the address of your new picture under the "I have my Own Pic Dialogue"; if you already have one. Else you'll have to sit down and cook up something for it

The people complaining are obviously too young to remember the TRS 80 based Microsoft Flight Simulator. I don't know if it technically was a precursor to this one but that's it's name. That sim had no terrain. Everything was green lines on a black screen and if you flew out of sight of the airport or it went off screen (just a green line rectangle) it would reset it'self to a random heading making flying a traffic pattern completely impossible.

I imagine Rajeev is from a different contry and region than I am and some of the international scenery is sort of disappointing but I was amazed the first time I tried a cross country flight to my home aiport. They had the major permanent landmarks perfect. I recognized the lake where I often go fishing, the national forest, the interstate highway with a state highway running beside it and the last 100 miles or so I was navigating purely by landmarks.

Those autogen upgrade files are available at FSfreeware.

Red on White you're alright.

It's probably not the case with these files, but if FSpayfreeware are up to their usual trick of charging for their files, look elsewhere. I definitely didn;t get them from there - I won't visit the place.

The first MS flightsim I used was version 4 where if I remember correctly, it was all in just a few colors

Hi all you young ;Dchaps.

I still have my first Sim. It was called Nightflight and I played it on a Spectrum ZX ( which I still have although not now using) I have gone through Fly, Flight Unlimited, FS95, 98, 2000, 2002, and would never have thought it would get as good as 2002 is, although basic , all the third party stuff is superb. I admire all of you that can do these things and am indebted that you release your work to us all. Grateful thanks ;) ;)
Regards to all,

Anish,

Thanks for the response on putting the picture into the post. I tried your suggestion, but the dialogue box wouldn't accept a reference to my hard drive & gave me an error message  - do you have to use a reference to a website?

Look right at the top of the forum. You'll see some links with a blue background including "Upload image".

Click that, and there are some instructions in there to read.

Upload your image, you'll get a part URL back. Change the end bit to the name of your pic. Be careful, it's case sensitive so it has to be exactly the name that you uploaded.

Then go to the message you want to post, click the 4th icon from the left on the second row above the text box (which looks like a picture).

It will insert IMG tags between which you'll see "URL". Delete the URL letters and replace them with the url of your uploaded image.

Heh.  You youngsters have it easy.  When I was your age, we flew sublogic flight simulator on our Apple IIs.  Now, that was flying!

Actually, I don't understand the presumptuousness of someone who complains that their tiny corner of the world isn't rendered in exquisite detail.  For your information, I'm live in a rural part of the US and my hometown isn't realistic either.  If you want to enjoy fs2k2, I suggest you pick a spot where there is scenery.  That's what I had to do.

Had Microsoft spent more time on the landscape for my hometown, the sim would have taken a lot longer to finish and cost a lot more.  And very few people would ever have seen the hard work that went into most of it, because the majority will fly in more populated areas.

I think it's also important to remember that creating an exact virtual reality copy of planet Earth is a near impossible task. It would take years to do and by the time it was released to the public, the game would be very expensive or even obsolete.
Microsoft had to cut many corners when creating FS2002 because they had to keep cost, time, and buyer system power in mind. An exact replica of earth would be nice but not at 1fps!   ;)
