You obviously are uncultured and not an avid reader of The Aeroplane Monthly.

Among the little gems in a "database" article on the Hunter, was  drawing on a paper-only project study of a Hunter based business jet.  Little more than the wings and tailplane was kept.  It was to have been a cabin jet with space for 4-5 people (plus two pilots), with two rear mounted (within the fuselage, not podded) engines - intakes on the upper sides, roughly behind the wings, not on the wings, a la Hunter fighter.

Yes, come on Felix, spill the beans. My immediate thought was the HS 125 (Hawker 800) until I remembered this started life as the DH 125, designed & developed by a completely different company.

I must say, that i didn't know about the Hawker Harrier!  It  is unusual in my experiance for Americans to think that something British is good! Damn Yanks, lol!(Only Joking!)

At 0730 this morning I got a very pleasant surprise! After 5 weeks of waiting my Shackleton book has arrived! Avro Shackleton by Barry Jones ISBN 1 86726449 6.  In the acknowledgements our very own Dean Wingrin is mentioned!

Now here comes the moaning part! The chapter on the SAAF Shackletons is a grand total of 9 pages long! With so many errors it

The Hawks are now made at Brough or Warton, I forget. BAE Systems also are making a part of the F-35 JSF along with Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin at Fort Worth, TX.

There are plans for a British production line. Also parts (e.g., empenage not components) of the AV-8B and the T-45 are made in the UK before shipment to Boeing.

Also MRA4 Nimrod is in production, slowly.

Westland make Merlin Helicopters and (do something with the)WAH-1 Apaches.

Many are overhauled with new avionics, system, engines e.g., Harrier GR.9 & 9A and T.12.

Now on the issue of the Merlin, i would like to say that, the Merlin is one of my favorite helicopters and would very much like to see it as freeware.  Although the Italian Navy has now got involved and has had the Merlin made to fit it's needs also, it does show that whne the UK does turn out aircraft they are generally of a good to high standard!(My point of view)  ;D

I agree that the nimrod is a very nice aircraft! one of my current favorites!  A Nimrod flies with the Red Arrows as a support plane, i saw it at Teeside airport last year!

Well, the Nimrod is basically a much-modified Comet 4C airliner. Like all such modifications it never looked quite right to me. The MR.2 version used by the Red Arrows is not too bad & has been in service in the maritime SAR role for many years. I believe there are still problems with the ugly AEW versions. These were intended to replace the faithful old Shackleton but went well over budget.  This forced the RAF to purchase the Boeing E3D Sentry in order to fulfil NATO requirements. I feel it would have been far more realistic to have done this in the first place.

Henk. Your experience with the published word is nothing unusual. I think this would be best taken up with the author & publishers.

I admit that the AEW3 version of the Nimrod, is VERY ugly!!!!  :-/ But i think that the Nimrod Mr2 is very nice!
