Leg 11 flown. And oh man....

Postby FSTipster » Wed Apr 23, 2003 6:06 pm

Well my joystick (more tempremantal than the average housewife at a nasty time of the month) decided to work today, so I abandoned everything I was doing to fly leg 11 to Rio De Janeiro.

Unusually, I'm going to tell you a little about this leg now. I won't give all the ins and outs, you'll have to wait for the report, but I will tell you that this leg was all about weather and Antonio C. Jobian Internatoional Airport - my point of arrival.

Suffice it to say, that it was (seriously) the first time I've ever actually panicked as a result of FS2002. It's about half an hour after my landing and I'm still twitching!

South America has definitely got it in for me as far as landings go. If you've read the last leg I did, you'll know I already encountered the worst landing I've ever had to perform. Well, this beat it - and by a country mile. That the Baron is still in one piece is little short of a miracle. I seriously though my RTW flight was coming to an end with this leg.

I'll publish the leg tomorrow. I'll do my level best to try and convey what was going on so that you get some feel for what I just experienced. Don't miss it! :o

Looking forward.  :)
I can identify with some level of panic during tough landings.

I hope I can describe it well enough so that everyone gets the idea.

Just about anything that can go wrong with an approach did. Small hint in the fact that the first time I saw the runway was when I was 3 feet above it according to the radar altimeter!

Sounds like a perfectly normal landing to me John. Tell me did you have excessive crates of unsecured foaming ale like in Iceland?

Mark ;D

What, only 3 feet! And didn't you check the weather??

I think we've all sweated a few. And I'm glad the ATC is not voice activated!!!
White on White fly all night.

Red on White you're alright.

Red on Red you'll soon be dead.

I never check the weather - I love surprises! ;D

In this instance it wouldn't have mattered. My joystick rarely works at the moment, so when it does, I have to grab the opportunity and go for it!

The inside of the cockpit is covered in it. ;) ;D

Don't I know it! ::) :)

I've done the report, screenshots and flight log - just that interactive map to do (I'm really growing to dislike that bit LOL).

It should be published within the hour. I'll let you know.
