Scenery Help

Postby BE58D » Tue Apr 15, 2003 1:53 pm

While this may not be the correct forum for this... I have noticed (and downloaded) quite a bit of scenery for use with LAGO's FSSE and the file extensions are .SE1 instead of .BGL, my question is... can these be converted to .BGL somehow or will they work as is in FS2002?

No, I'm 99.9% certain they are no use unless you have FSSE. Fozzer will be able to confirm this as he has the offending program. ;)

Thanks, of course I figured as much... there is some darn nice freeware scenery out there... But not really freeware I guess if you have to buy FSSE to get it to work.

There should be plenty of good stuff available created with the conventional programs. The quality of freeware scenery design is outstanding these days. IMHO

I've got FSSE and can confirm that you can't convert the files to bgls unfortunately.

They draw from scenery objects and reference data contained with the program itself.

;D I have experienced luck with some scenery and none with the rest.  I have installed Add On scenery and the other that overwrites or adds to the default scenery.  I notice that there is always a Scenery Folder and a Texture Folder.  Can anyone tell me what specific files should be in each folder?  The reason I ask is I have checked the folders and they seem to be loaded differently.  I have downloaded some with empty folders, arent they all supposed to have something in them?  I am learning as I go and reading the tutorials, but still not having much luck with some, and I think you need some programs like AFCAD? to run some scenery or add some items to scenery.  Thanks ;D ;D ;D

Well Splash... .BGL files go into the scenery folder, and the .BMP files go into the texture folder.  Thanks FSTipster for the tip I am debating whether or not to get FSSE, haven't really decided... nor am I really thinking of it at this point.

Yeah, I already have Abacus Airport & Scenery Designer and their other program (I can't remember the name) that kinda does the same as FSSE, but I never use them because I suck at making the stuff.

;DThanks Guys.  I checked out your tutorial Hagar, explains it very well.  I wasnt having any trouble with the "ready to install" scenery (lol) but the others were the ones I was having trouble with.  Puttin wrong files in the wrong folders, I guess.  Gonna go try it again  It was very fustrating, downloading a scenery, to find it wasnt a "rti" and not knowing how to properly do it.  Gotta start readin the instrs, but I hate that part of it  lol ;D ;D ;D

I hate reading the instructions too Splash, besides... If everyone read the instructions we wouldn't be able to ask lame questions (me included), nor would we have anything to complain about!

;D Yeah BE58D, I only read the instrs as a last resort.  Or have my wife do it for me.  lol   I find it much better asking questions on here, I think individuals explain things much better.  Its a social thing I guess  lol

I agree... we all must socialize, and what a better than this way (also avoids talking to the wife).

Once you're familiar with the directory & file structure of FS2002, you can pretty much install most aircraft and scenery without instructions
